We were recently in Portland from a cruise ship. We disembarked just off Commercial Street. Unfortunately, it was very cool and pouring rain. Otherwise, I'm sure the experience would have been much more pleasurable. There are great choices in restaurants. Because of the rain, we quickly popped into Andy's for a very pleasant lunch. Afterwards, we strolled along Commercial Street in the rain, peering into the many shops - many local, individual establishments.
If you like wandering along a great shop filled street, then Commercial is for you. I like to stroll with my Newfoundland Therapy dogs while my wife ducks in and out of the shops. We all have a great time and the Newfs like the pats they get!
There are wonderful restaurants and bars and beautiful shops and boutiques. you can go out on the wharfs and see the Fore River and look at boats and ships and yachts.
This is also the are where Trolleys and boats are for taking tours. Loads of dining establishments. Very enjoyable stroll.
A shopping area, a lot of restaurants to choose, its proximity, a fun and very interesting and safe and clean too.

This was an interesting area/ a mix of commercial shops and stores. Some unique in design. It was nice to stroll along this street looking at all the shops and window shop.
Something here to do for everyone. There are all kinds of great shops, restaurants, bars, etc. everything is within easy walking distance with a great view of the harbor.
Great place to go - don't forget the street behind commerical that runs parallel (maybe Fore Street). cobblestone streets, litte shops, restaurants....somthing for everyone!
Wonderful little shops all up and down the street - lots of variety and good quality stores, not all tees shirt stores. Street very clean - never felt unsafe even late at night.
The shops are fun, the wharf is lovely. Expect to pay NYC/LA prices and then some. It is geared for the tourists. On the other hand, it has Standard Bakery, the best breakfast place I know.
This street is in the center of Portlands waterfront area. The street is lined with restaurants, shops, bakeries, the Port and more!
Wonderful waterfront avenue, very old part of town, lots of shops, restaurants, ferry terminal and Ocean Gateway terminal.
