I've been to dozens of shows at Merrill since moving to Portland in 1980. The building was completely restored a number of years ago. It is truly a sight to behold. The acoustics and site lines are top notch. The staff is friendly. Highly recommended.
I have been here for major concerts as well as for kids shows, and I absolutely adore this place. The accoustics are excellent, and even the concession choices were excellent downstairs. If you have time to walk around the building, do so, talk about marvelous architecture.
The auditorium is build to let the sound fill the auditorium. There are three levels. They do have an elevator to the balcony and third tier. Once we got to the balcony, we found there were lots of steps to get to the level of our seats on the balcony. If you have problems with steps, I suggest you get a first floor seat, if possible.
Beautiful Theater in downtown Portland, MEAttached to the back of City Hall.We have been attending the Bob Marley New Years Eve show here for several years now.
Love the Merrill...what a great piece of history....Bob Marley was great as were the two comedians before him.. Love this place
My Wife & I attended the Portland Symphony Orchestra "The Magic of Christmas! What a performance with special guests and music & a fun holiday sign along segment! It really got us in the Christmas Spirit!
The Merrill Auditorium was very nice, the concert was less so. One of the excellent Portland Symphony's Pop Concerts, the music of Sir Elton John and Billy Joel was played. Actually overplayed! The full orchestra overpowered the featured music for the piano. We left at Intermission havng heard our fill.
We could not believe our good luck to be in Portland on the Friday Artwalk, when this amazing instrument was on tour. We not only got to hear the organ, but were able to tour the chamber where the pipes are housed. Highly recommend attending any event where this organ is featured.
During the many years I have lived in Portland, I have seen countless instrumental, opera, ballet, and other productions at the Merrill Auditorium. Most recently I heart a production of the opera Rigoletto presented. If you are visiting our fair city and have the opportunity to hear/see a production here, you will not regret doing so. Merrill is a spectacularly beautiful elegant venue with terrific acoustics.
Very Affordable, comfortable seats….love their Christmas Show and Robert Moody! He is a great conductor….
Went to see Bill Maher last week and had a wonderful time. We got our tickets on line and their was a short wait at the pick up window, crowd was in great spirits (it is wonderful to be in a large group of lefties) and the show lived up to its promise although it did get started a bit late. We sat in Balcony a ways from the stage but had great sight lines and acoustics were good.
The hall is beautifully restored, with great acoustics and lighting. Its under 2000 seats and feels even more intimate than that size would suggest. We prefer it to many similar facilities in the Boston area.
What more can you say?? Perfect setting to view this group, close and personal. Best show I have seen since TSO in Manchester, NH
We attended PORTopera's performance of Rigoletto. Great production and a great venue. The only drawback is the rack of the floor is so shallow that my 5'-1" wife has a very hard time seeing the performance if someone tall sits in front of her.
My wife and I have seen two artists at this venue. Both shows were amazing. The first artist we saw was Nancy Griffith. This was our second time seeing her perform. The second artist we saw here was Peter Frampton. Both shows were great and the acoustics were amazing. We can't wait to see another show at this amazing venue!
