When I read the 2 poor reviews, I almost fell off of my chair!!! I have fished on many boats in Hawaii, Cancun, Montauk ,Great lakes etc and understand that this is called fishing not catching. With that said, I have never walked away from a trip feeling this totally ripped off even when the fishing was at it's slowest. My sister booked a 4 hour morning trip (I prefer 8 hr. or even over nighter's) and we spent a solid 2 hours of that time trying to catch bait. I felt very bad for our party and the additional other party (3 people) that spent $75 per head to seek out garbage mackeral that should have been in the livewell when we got on board. Once we caught bait for his afternoon group of suckers, the attempt to catch stripers was meek and feebile to say the least. Perhaps this charter seems to think that only non experienced fisherman/women are booking these trips and think they can get away with this farce, but that day they had the wrong guy on board. I decided to bite my lip during the whole time and still took care of the first mate (who actually did a good job) tip wise. I wanted to knock the captains head off over the bait fiasco but I am gentleman and fisherman and decided to let it slide.DO NOT USE THESE GUYS!! Pay the extra money, do your research, and don't get caught in this tourist trap.
If you are looking for a real fun trip go with capt satch and sons. We did the morning trip left at 8:00 and returned at noon. We first hit mackerel capt Nick made sure we were in the right spot. The first mate, Joe, satches grandson was full of energy and could not be more helpful. We set out to get strippers out of eight people we caught a 35" All in all. Great time highly recommend this boat
I cannot express in enough positive terms how much we enjoyed the Satch & Sons 10 hour deep sea fishing trip! As landlocked Canadian city dwellers, we had zero deep sea fishing experience and were a little apprehensive about booking this trip. But right from the booking, we were made to feel comfortable and enthusiastic. Captain Satch's operation is nothing short of incredible. The boat ride out to the best fishing spots was worth the price of admission! We saw dolphins, seals and even glimpsed a whale. The fishing was super fun - you never had to wait long without a nibble. We caught pollock, cod, a couple red fish and even a little shark who was more than happy to be sent back to where he came from. Satch's mate, Keith, was an inspiration: he worked his tail off setting up equipment and helping us inexperienced anglers, and on the way back, he scrubbed down that boat to within an inch of its life - we never had to experience any flies or unpleasant smells - everything was whistle clean. Satch and Keith are smart, experienced and thoughtful and very cognizant and respectful of marine ecology. Everyone on board was friendly and fun. I eagerly look forward to my next fishing adventure with Satch and highly recommend his operation to anyone: young or old(er), experienced or not.
We just completed a 10 hour fishing excursion with Captain Satch and first mate Keith. This was definitely our best and most memorable day in Maine so far. These guys are not only pros at what they do but they are also the nicest people you could spend 10 hours with on a boat!Time flew by, caught LOTS of fish and had a terrific time. We will definitely do this again when we return to Wells. Very special thanks to both Captain Satch and Keith - you were great hosts.
So captan satch seemed like a cool guy but stayed on land. The boat operator was nice but kind of an goof. Deckhand was great. Basically as said. 2 and a half hours were unsuccessfully fishing for bait when he had plenty on board already. In addition this was supposed to be just the 6 of us for a pre bachelor party event but they booked a family of four with us without saying a word the four times I talked to them. Overall the boat and staff was good but the bait thing was ridiculous. I'm all for tips but 15% of 450 is a little much
1st time out with Captain Satch and Sons and 1st time out on a small group boat verses the big party boat bottom fishing. We took the 6 hour afternoon charter on the Garth. There is limited cabin space to get out of the sun so prepare. Porta potty not so nice so I suggest toilet paper and wipes for hands... Bench seats w/o padding...Thats all the negatives.Captian Nick and 1st mate Tommy work feverishly chasing mackerel on the fish finder and we all caught a few. We fished the shores, the rocks, and got up close to light houses, the cliffs and shore as we worked cut bait and live. Really senic views while waiting for nibbles.Tommy workered very hard casting all our lines and de-tangling us and taking all my good harded ribbing. Both guys knew us all on a first name basis by the end of the trip... As for catches, it can be a good day or bad one. I'll be bias, got a 26" striper on live bait near the shore :) Even if we didn't catch much, Gloria, Nick and Tommy made for a nice day on the water and learned a lot about fishing for next time.
This will be the third year my teen son and I have gone on offshore fishing trips with Captain Satch in August. Every trip has been great and we're already looking forward to next year. His schedule fills up fast, but we were able to join a 10-hour offshore group trip this time. Satch limits the group trips to six fisherpeople on the India Marie, the boat we went on. That's perfect: leaves plenty of space to fish without being crowded or constantly crossing lines. Each time we've gone, we've been out with Satch and first mate Keith. Both are super friendly and as attentive as you could wish -- on top of any gear or line issues, always ready to answer questions, quickly on first name basis with everyone, very family friendly, and especially encouraging younger anglers. My highest praise: you feel like you're going out for the day with a good friend. At the same time, Satch delivers on good fishing -- everyone had a busy day this year with lots of cod, pollock and redfish. Nobody can guarantee fish, but Satch isn't going through the motions -- he knows his locations and isn't stingy with the gas to move as needed to keep things active. Obviously, we're big fans and high recommend Satch and Sons!
When you sink almost $1000 into a fishing trip they should tell you that it is unlikely you will catch anything. Captain Satch is a cool guy but you only see him for about thirty seconds at the dock. We spent three of the four hours fishing for bait(which the hosts kept) and then about half an hour unsuccesfully fishing for stripers, which are rarely caught on these trips. There is a mandatory 15% "gratuity", which, is gratuity means unnecessary, sort of defeats the purpose. When it came down to it, we paid them almost a grand to catch their bait for them.
I have been on a number of deep sea fishing trips and was hesitant about going on another. My daughter begged me to go and I am glad that she did! Captain Tom and 1st mate Joey made the experience fun for all. Very knowledgeable and friendly. I would fish with them again!!
Gath IV and India Marie six to ten passengers fishing trips with four generations of family(6-80 years old) was absoulely the BOMB!! These guys were attentive to all our needs!! Highly suggest you take lots of fluids and food for the upto 10 hour trips. The youngest one didn't like fishing before, BUT now says" I'm a deep sea fisherman!!!!!!!!!!!" Thanks, to all the crews.
Awesome fishing trip with Captain Whit and First Mate Nick! Had a great time and caught some fish worth fighting for... Even though we couldn't keep them. Looking forward to next time!
Great time, an excellent value. Went on an all-day trip which was great. Satch knows where the fish are. Keith did a terrific job as the mate. Can't wait to go again.
