Just played yesterday. Not as much as I was hoping for. Not even a real club house. What happened here? Course is in nice condition though. Quite a few odd lay outs. Shooting gallery here and there. Greens are the oddest I have played. So many severe nooks and crannies on the greens and you have to wonder why. I have been to Myrtle Beach many times and have played many better courses there for much less cost. I see they are charging $150.00 during the summer. Not worth it. A tourist trap at that point.
The course is in excellent shape. It's open to the public and is relatively inexpensive. We each paid $65 for golf and a shared cart. There is a small deck with a bar for an after-golf adult beverage.
It is a great layout, in excellent condition in a nice farmland setting, called links style because of the relative lack of trees on the course, but it's really a parkland layout with a few forced carries and some run up options to the greens. The course it's is challenging and varied, but as noted in other reviews, was intended to be a private or semi-private course, so there are no hole diagrams on the scorecard or tee markers, nor is there a yardage book available. Download a GPS program that has hole diagrams before you play and bring a laser rangefinder if you have one. See full description at tips golf tips on the web. There is also no driving range or practice area other than a putting green that does allow chipping and a two-station hitting net. Unfortunately, when I played I had the first tee time at 8:12 (odd starting time!) allegedly to let maintenance get done on the course, but no one showed up to open the clubhouse/pro shop until after 7:45 and when we teed off, greens hadn't been cut on most of the front 9. Good thing we wasted over an hour and a half of a beautiful, sunny day waiting to tee off for "maintenance." I'd had a similar experience a couple years prior with lackadaisical customer service, so it does appear to be a trend. Rates are reasonable for prime time at $55 with cart for 18 if you are an in-state resident or military or $65 if you're not. Overall, it's a good course in good shape, but it sure needs a practice area and a little more focus on customer service. Still, I'd definitely play it again.
I want to play there even so I've given up the game. Matt Adams the pro is my wife is first cousins once removed, his mom was at our wedding and we've been to her home.
It's an all day excursion to get down to Middletown to play this wonderful links style course. It's one of the better courses in New England, but not really worth the nutty greens fees.
Just a wondeful gem of a links style course. Great condition and a joy to play! We would certainly play here again. Only issue was the score card nor the tee box showed the each holes layout.
