We saw this establishment advertised in a tourism magazine for Rhode Island so I brought my visitors from England while we were on a one-day visit to Newport. Two were adults who had never ridden before and one was an experienced teenage rider. Unfortunately it's grandiose name didn't match the facility or the experience. The person who led the ride and set up my guests on their horses paid little attention to their level of experience and nervousness and seemed amused at their fears. The most nervous rider was put on the biggest horse which seemed to be hard to control so that horse was eventually given to the experienced teenager who had to utilize all her skills to keep it under control. Eventually the group was led on a long ride down a road (with traffic) to the beach. Unfortunately the ride on the beach was very short. One of the adult riders was thrown from her horse when it suddenly bucked without provocation. On the return ride up the road (with traffic) the same horse bucked again, and the horse being ridden by the teenager rider (who was at the rear of the line) also bucked - probably because of passing vehicles. On returning to the stables the adult who had been thrown by her horse on the beach asked for something to clean up a cut on her ankle which happened when she fell. No First Aid box was on site and instead she was invited to use the hose in the stable to wash it down. My greatest concerns about this establishment are that there was only one person to lead and control four horses (including her own) and two nervous inexperienced riders and that there was no First Aid kit on hand to clean a minor riding injury. My guests paid $75 each for the ride, but were asked for an additional 20% each to pay the person who led the ride, since she works only for tips. I would not recommend the Newport Equestrian Academy riding tours for anyone other than experienced, confident riders. I will not be returning and will not recommend them to anyone else.
As a complete beginner, which we made very clear, I was given a horse that was extremely tetchy. I was just beginning to get confident when it threw me. The lady who accompanied us, whilst very friendly, seemed unconcerned by this and wasn't that helpful about getting me back on my horse. Having said that, the scenery was stunning. And I suspect it's more suitable for experienced riders.
The staff is very friendly, and the horses were well matched to our kids. The scenery the kids saw was nice, but they rode along the road the entire time. It would have been nice to ride on an actual trail for a trail ride. We booked a 2 hour ride, but the first half hour was eaten up by getting all of the riders setup with their horses, so the ride was really only 1 1/2 hours. The kids had fun, and really liked their horses but I'm on the fence about going back there.
My husband and I rode here on our honeymoon 17 years ago. Fast forward and we have returned with 3 kids in tow. We enjoyed our trail ride with Deborah. She did an excellent job keeping us all safe while explaining the rich history and natural surroundings on our ride. Thanks again Deborah!
I wanted to take my girlfriend somewhere for her birthday and I knew she loved horses. I did some research and came across Newport equestrian club. I called and was warmly greeted by Deborah. She conveniently set up and appointment on Memorial Day and fully informed me on everything I needed to know. In detail she gave me the price, address, directions, and the timing of ride. I arrived and there was a nice big sign "Newport Equestrian". Tabby was beside herself with excitement when she saw it was horseback riding. We walked down the driveway and a nice lady Debbie greeted us. She told us what we would be doing that day and told us to pick out a helmet and to get ready for a fun ride. She had us wait in a covered area so we could practice a bit of riding. I got a white horse named Giddeon and Tabby got a brown horse named Jenny. We practiced commands and walking for a few minutes until I felt comfortable because this was my first time riding. But mu girlfriend was already experienced. Then we headed out for our trail.Debbie walked us around and showed us stunning views of wildlife. Debbie let Tabby trot whenever she wanted. She was having a great time. We loved our trail. Debbie talked about some history of the area and told us a bit about herself. You could tell she loved her job which is good. She was an excellent tour leader. She let us go on the beach for a minute. Tabby asked Debbie to stop and snap some pics of us and she said she would love to. She took many shots at different angles which was cool. I didn't want this fun to end. Unfortunately, all good things come an end. We stayed a few minutes later to pet some other horses. Debbie showed us around the barn and I can assure you that the horses are really happy. The paddocks were clean, horses were very healthy, and well-kept. Newport Equestrian Club is a place I would highly highly consider if you are looking for a nice place for a great riding experience! I am not one to review places but I felt the this place deserves high ratings.
If you want a change from the normal routine of Newport you should try this place. You can take a scenic trail ride along the beach which lasts about two hours, if you have more time you can also take riding lessons. This is a pleasant little place to spend some time if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Newport for an afternoon.
