We went on the Halloween Haunted Riverride, it was a different experience. Not very scary. We did learn some history of the area.
We were pleasantly surprised by the wealth of information in this visitors center. The person in charge, I think her name was Wendy, was so friendly and so helpful! The video that was shown was a real eye-opener into the history of the area, particularly the growth and eventual demise of the textile industry. They also have a nicely stocked gift shop with Rhode Island specialty items like Dave's Coffee Syrup. To find this on MapQuest, search Blackstone Valley Tourism Council Inc, 175 Main St., Pawtucket, RI 02860
If you're looking for things to do in and around Pawtucket, they can help. Pamphlets and maps and bus schedules.
Very helpful staff person - information, brochures and maps. Also a very well-done short movie on Slater Mill is well worth the time.
When in New England, this RI Visitors Center is a place to see. Lovely interior with lots of informational brochures for local attractions, restaurants and places to stay. It is located just across the street from the historic Old Slater Mill in Pawtucket, RI.
We toured the Blackstone Valley by bike. What a great time!!! The tour leader, Bob Billington, the Tour leader, is knowledgable, considerate, and very low key. The trip brings riders through some of the city streets that showcase the history of the industrial revolution in the USA. You'll tour the historic Blackstone River and see a variety of mills that buzzed during their peak. You stop at ethnic food stores and textile mills to see how the valley is still producing despite economic and demographic changes. You'll visit small mill villages and then head on to stunning scenery in Cumberland and Lincoln RI. The ride is very leisurely and I'd recommend it for all but the youngest children and the very oldest adults.
