useful things antiques & collectibles

Enjoyed my visit to Useful Things on September 18 & 20. Found the owner and her assistant to be pleasant and quite helpful. I asked the owner to hold one piece for me and she was nice when I came back and told her I didn't want it. I bought two other pieces and am really pleased with them and the prices. She works hard to keep things moving and I saw new/different items on Saturday that weren't there on Thursday. Putting this one on my "hit list" for a return visit.

I've shopped at the store a few times and found some nice furniture that I was able to paint and bring up to date. I've sent quite a few people from the area to the store when looking for certain things. I won't be doing that again. I live about 2 hours from the store and travel past Bardstown about once every 2 months. I saw some chairs online and asked them to hold two for me. They were marked as 25 each. I was told 4 others were being sold to another person. When arriving after driving over 30 minutes one way off the beaten path I was told they had held 4 for me and that I caused them to lose out on selling the other two. (I guess they didn't know they had told me that the other lady wanted 4 not 6). Long story short they wouldn't split them and let me get 2 even though they are marked individually. I explained I had only requested 2 because I only have room for 2 at my table and that I had driven quite a ways to get there. I will not be shopping there or sending anyone else. I travel and visit many antique and thrift stores most people you can take on their word. This place not so much.

I have been shopping at Useful Things for 4 years and have always had good experiences there. The store, open Thursday through Sunday, always has an extensive and varied selection of items to chose from and always at reasonable prices. A fun aspect is that I never know what I will find there. I have found both antique and newer furniture, kitchen items, books, vintage clothing, tools and collectibles. The proprietors, Barbara, Donnie and Tonya couldn't be more helpful and cheerful. If you go there and don't find something useful, you simply hurried and missed seeing everything!

A great little shop, the people are pretty nice. They seems to cater more to locals than to visitors, but they are always polite and I have purchased a few items in this store. I can't give this store a fantastic review because the store simply isn't big enough for a day-trip half-way between Louisville and Bardstown, but it is a nice little stop over for half an hour or so. The items are usually well stocked, they are not too open to haggling, or buying. They are simply sellers. That sort of takes some of the fun out of it. :)
