Very beautiful drive well worth the effort to get there. Some white knuckle driving on the way. This was on our way through Kentucky, while doing the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. The area was fantastic.

My family and I camped here overnight one weekend with some family friends. This is a very child friendly camping environment. The camp grounds sit at the top of a hill. The grounds are very well-kept (no trash lying around, grass around campgrounds is mowed). Firewood is provided up request (they ask that you do not bring your own firewood to avoid bringing unwelcome pests that might damage the forest). There are excellent trails with stunning views throughout the forest. Many of the trails have numerous points for jumping off back to the campgrounds. This is especially useful when hiking with little ones (like we did) who cannot go long distances. For those who would like a longer hike there is an awesome 10-mile loop.Being only a little over 20-minutes' drive from Louisville, this is a really great spot for a getaway from city life.

This forest is conveniently located to metro Louisville and offers a variety of hiking trails. We went on a cold winter day. It was so beautiful

My husband and I love to go hiking at Jefferson Memorial Forest! About fifteen minutes from downtown Louisville, JMF offers the greatest variety of trails in the area. There are several sections to the park area. Be sure to start your day at the Welcome Center and pick up trail maps there. Trail options include loops and one-ways. The recently opened Yost Ridge Trail allows the option of connecting trails from several sections of the forest together. Plenty of options!

You can hike the longest trails in a day. Its never too crowded. Good maintenance and easy to follow trails.Mitchell hill lake is a nice area for a picnic. About a 10 acre pond/lake. Has picnic area, meadow, and enough area by the water for a nice picnic. Secluded enough for romance, but you should expect to see a couple of passers by. Wildflowers are always in bloom. Trails are never swampy.Recommended for day hikers only. Hopefully they will allow backwoods/trail camping at some point. There is no reason not to.

I had been to Louisville KY about 5-6 times before, but never having time to explore some of its trail running areas. Well well well... the Siltstone Trail, located in the Jefferson Memorial Forest, is well worth the detour. If your aim is to run/walk one of the slowest 10km of your life, then you have found your spot. Hill after hill after hill of forest single track, with glimpses of downtown Louisville views. Trails are very well marked, can't get lost. The Siltstone Trail is a straight line out, so you'll have to turn around and come back the same way. Most sane (and generally not that fit) people would hate it, my husband and I found it fantastic. Bring more water than you think you'll need and a few sustenance items as well (gels/jujubes) and you'll have some serious bragging rights once done. Happy trails!
