Just across the state line into Kentucky there's a place to play bingo, keno and slots. They call it paramutual betting (there's a horse race on the bottom section of the machine that determines your lucky horses)) but they are slot machines in my book. It's better than driving 3 hours to Tunica if you like it simple. No table games like craps or black jack but it is still a nice little get away. Be sure to sign up for their players card and allow the hostess to show you how to play and they will give you $15-50 of their money to play with. We enjoyed it and will go back.
Rang in the new year playing bingo The race track has a bingo game 6 nights a week and it also has an on site casino
They take great strides to tell you what fun it is to be there? The food is god awful;, and takes forever to get there. When you can hunt down a waitress for a beverage, Because I was there 2 hours before i found a waitress that would even stop. The drinks are luke warm because they apparently cant afford ice cubes . The very confusing slot type machines are EXTREMELY tight ! They allow patrons to tilt a chair to a machine to reserve it? I understand a bathroom brake, or a waitress hunt for a beverage. But after 20 minutes of staring at a machine with no one at it, I pulled down the chair and attempted to play it , and a man said his wife is playing it, while pointing across the floor to her playing another machine.?! Then was told by a floor staff person that i could not play it. After i asked how many machines 40 feet apart can one person play? The manager said very matter of fact, if i didn't like it i could leave .So me my son and wife promptly left . We will NEVER return there again. I would advise anyone thing about going there to not bother. it was a very disheartening experience.
They only race a few days a year here, and I was fortunate enough to attend their closing day of the 2014 racing season. An added bonus for me was getting to meet Ron Turcotte (Secretariat's jockey) who was there to benefit the injured jockey's fund. The course is turf only (no dirt course), and reminds you of a British racing venue. There is also a casino and simulcast betting, which operate year around. A fun afternoon!
Fun place. Great staff.Air circulation/ventilation could use some upgrading. On the weekends, the sitting smoke can become an issue for non-smokers such as myself.Make sure you stop by the Player's Club to get a free tutorial on 'Instant Racing' and a free play coupon.
Visited this race track to watch the live horse races (they have a live meet during September each year, in which the horses race solely on grass). Was here a few years ago, but the track has really upgraded all their facilities recently. You can also watch/wager on other tracks around the country. If you're not a horse racing fan, there's a decent variety of electronic slot machines in the clubhouse, along with a bar/restaurant. Most of the staff we encountered through the day were cordial, friendly and eager to help/answer questions. On the downside - as other reviewers have noted - there seem to be no restrictions on smoking. You can light up anywhere and everywhere (and MANY do). I'm not a rabid anti-smoker, but the smoke was so thick in the main building that it even got to me after a while. People who are sensitive to this may have a problem here.
Couldn't stay to eat for all of the cigarette smoke. I really have no idea how the food might be...after a short walk through the building, my wife and I smelled like smoke the rest of the day.
We spent a long weekend in KY to visit the Downs and the Mammoth Cave. My husband completely enjoyed gambling on the horses here. Where we live in Detroit, there is only harness racing (soon to change). So it was a treat to see thoroughbred racing. The track has plenty of sunny seats and shaded seats. There are tons of options for food and cocktails. We really enjoyed a nice relaxing day at the races.
Tried the instant racing gaming they had here. It was actually hard to understand. I'd make a bet on an unknown race, pick the top three horses, and the computer would change the horses I picked. Very confusing and not surprising I had a losing time. Not the tracks fault, but the state of Kentucky needs to really allow casino gaming, like slots, etc. The instant racing just doesn't cut it.
