This museum changes their theme at different times of the year, focusing on an aspect of the family's life who built and live in the home. I like the way it is kept as a "living" museum. For example, as you go there, you are welcomed into the home as a guest just as if you were visiting the family in the day. The home has many neat features and the docents are extremely knowledgeable. My favorite theme is when they have the "wake", remembering a loved one who has died. They usually bring the old embalming table and the old hearse to the home and that is definitely something you'll remember. Adsmore also has a nice gift shop with a variety of exclusive items and they even have a meeting room with restrooms and a small kitchen for meetings, family gatherings, etc.

If you enjoy touring old, stately homes that are, for most practical realizations, fully maintained from their era, then the Adsmore House & Museum / Gardens, is a delight that you will not want to miss. The tours provided are small and cozy, which permits the tour guide to maintain their persona throughout. The home itself is a Victorian style mansion and, depending upon the time of the year, the tours and scenes are modified to fit a carefully chosen theme. We were fortunate enough to have witnessed the setup regarding the wedding between Dr. John Osborne and Miss Selina Smith (circa 1907). Allow yourself about an hour to one and one-half hours for the full tour.Be advised that there is some stair climbing involved, both at the porch and later in the house to gain access to the second floor. My wife and I took my mother-in-law to tour Adsmore for her 81st birthday. We all had a wonderful time. Our guide, Connie, was extremely gracious and really took her time to explain the history of the house and the family that called it home. It is great that they have all of the family's belongings to display for various seasons and events.

I have visited Adsmore twice, six years apart. This time I visited with friends to see the home decorated in a Christmas theme. The theme of the home is changed several times during the year so you can experience several events of its history. The most wonderful thing about the home is that all the furniture, china, and other articles are all authentic to the home. Our tour guide through the house was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to answer all questions. The home is exhibited as how it would have been in the early 1900's when the last resident Katherine Garrett, was just a child. When Katherine passed away in 1984, she left the home to be preserved as a museum. As just one example of the exquisite antiques or personal family item which are rotated throughout the year depending on the theme, she left 12 complete sets of china. Katherine also spent her final years documenting items, thus insuring that when items were displayed the guides could explain exactly the purpose or history of the item to the home. This is well worth the visit.

This is a local attraction, as I live only 15 miles from here. We make a point to see each and every event change they offer. This is a fantastic piece of history which changes with the season. Authentic to the pin!!! The entire estate and everything in it is staged for different events.... wedding.... funeral..... Christmas .... This family saved everything for generations and stored things in a way that they appear exactly as when they were new. The best event is the Christmas candlelight tour. This is wonderful for any age, however there are steps to climb and if you have problems with that, it is not a good idea for you. All in all.... I highly recommend a tour of this absolutely fantastic living museum. If you are anywhere in western or central Kentucky, or just passing on Hwy. 69, the WK.Parkway or interstate 24, come to Princeton and visit Adsmore House. They also host a garden tea and a music on the lawn event. You can go on line and see their hours, information and the event list. Princeton itself is a nice town with quaint shops teeming with historic renovation. A coffee shop, little gift shops, the 180 yr. old building which now houses the Art Guild, the famous Newsome's Old Mill Store, Big Spring certified historic site and Trail of Tears historic park are all convenient for a walk around town. Come to Princeton Kentucky and enjoy the town we are all very proud of.
