We were lucky to be invited to County Boy for a special tour of the brewery by the founders. This is a nice, small brewery and it has a cool, start up feel. The beer is excellent and I love seeing it at local restaurants now. Cougar Bait is a nice American lager and it's becoming very popular.
Nice brewery, tried a flight of beers to sample. Everything was quite good. Nice atmosphere and Friendly staff.
This place is really inviting and casual. Everybody is freindly. First sat at bar and sampled almost all the beers, ordered a flight to taste the ones I liked the most. Bartender was happy to assist me. She really talked up all the local brews. Once I found the brew I liked best, we stepped back to the patio. Some people ordered pizza, but there was a food truck outside that we enjoyed. Great place to have a good time with friends.
Craft brewery taprooms just don't get much more classic than this. Superb selection of their own brews as well as 10 or so guest taps in case you feel like something more familiar. Myself, I like the local brews. Just saying. And these are some of the finest I've had in a long time! As an IPA lover, I'm always looking for a hop smack in the mouth - full blast, don't look back, give it to me full force hop in the face. Yum. So imagine my delight to see several IPA's /Pale Ales of Country Boy brews right there in front of me begging to be sampled. I could be here for a while....So, let it be said that I did have my wife with me in case I needed a DD. Sometimes when I enjoy myself with gusto, it's good to have someone more responsible with you....And man, did their beer blow me away!! The two Alpha Experimental IPA's I tried were amazing. The mosaic hopped one was fresh and full of hoppy goodness and the other using the 260 hops was even better! I loved it! Wish I had taken a couple of my growlers with me....I only hope they become more than just experiments and are added to the rotation. The guys next to us were drinking the bourbon barrel brew and loved it. I'd like to try that next time but it's hard for me to stray from my beloved IPAs. I'll be back for sure! Save me a seat at the bar.
No food available at this brewery, only really good beer (although they do allow food delivery or carry in). Unfortunately, they were out of their version of IPA and Pale Ale the night we stopped by, but all of our other selections were excellent. Small and rustic, with some limited outdoor seating.
These beers are so good, you need to order a few flights so you can try several. Some of the best were Papaw's Barrel Aged Red and both of their new ciders (one is sweet and one is tart).
Had a chance to stop in to try a few of Country Boy Brews during a recent trip. Great beers in a classic brewpub/brewery set in an industrial park, which some of the best beers out there. The Heart of Dankness black IPA is a big full bodied beer with a good hop to malt balance. If your in Lexington and are looking for some unpretentious beer this is the place.
The atmosphere is very laid back and welcoming, like being at your local pub. We actually went two nights in a row since we had such a great time. We sat at the bar both times, and the bartender both nights was attentive, even when it got busy. The beer selection is phenomenal. They have about a dozen taps of various brewery craft beers, as well as about a dozen taps of their own beer. All of their own beer was really good. Some were very unusual, like the "Nacho bait", which tasted like you were literally drinking nachos, and the "blue spruce", which had a nice piney flavor (without being overwhelming). Some of their more traditional beers, such as their hefweizen, were very well done. We liked all of their beers, and even bought some cans to take home. They do not serve food, but there was a food truck there both nights (and they told us most every night), and they allow you to bring your own food in if you want (they even have the number to Jimmy John's posted on the wall, and saw them deliver a couple times). Overall, it was a great time, and if you like laid back beer drinking, highly recommended.
I've been trying to get over to Country Boy Brewing for over a year, and finally, I made it over with some friends. The warehouse/taproom is tucked into a little business district off of Broadway close to UK. The place was pretty packed with both college students and older folks. We tried several beers and loved them all. My favorite by far, though, is the infamous Shotgun Wedding. The Papaw's Red was also a tasty treat! They don't have food, but you can order some grub to be delivered there. Additionally, they have food trucks in the parking lot from time to time. My only regret is that I didn't get a growler to take home more beer!
Not a bad stop for a quick brew. The local crew know this spot is on the rise. Great beer with a huge selection. Seasonal stuff comes and goes so come back often.
the end of the first week of february will make the second year of existence for CBB. although we live 160 miles to the southwest we manage to pay a visit every time we're in town. i think the place was open about two months on our first visit.there are usually about 25 beers on the wall -- half guest brews. while the guest list is a fine lineup you would be sorry not to sample what these guys are making. like many breweries there are standards and there are seasonal brews. an interesting flagship is the smoked jalapeno porter (my favorite). my hop-head wife had a pint of the alpha experiment and was one happy girl. just time for a pint each tonight, but anytime spent at CBB is worth the visit.
Micro beers are great and Country Boys have some of the best. They serve their beers plus other micro's from Lex and other places. We sat at the bar while waiting for the rest of our party and the bartender (forget her name-sorry) was very friendly and attendant and while we were waiting we met and had a very long talk w/the owners (sons) mother and father (they are involved also ,but live out of town)--very nice. Had a great time w/them and then w/our party. Fab place. If you want a great micro go to CBB. (no restaurant).
As a local who enjoys craft beer, CBB is my favorite, by far. There are quite a few microbreweries/ craft beer bars to choose from, like CBB, West Sixth Brewing, Blue Stallion Brewing, etc. What is great about CBB is that their beers are PHENOMENAL, they have around 10-15 beers that they brew on tap at a time + a few other craft beer selections, the tap list is constantly changing w/ the season and creativity of the brewers, and there is always a different food truck right outside if you get hungry. My friends and I like to once every two weeks or so. My only negative is that the tasting room is small and can get crowded due to its popularity, but they recently opened up a back patio that opens up some space (weather permitting). Prices range from $3-$5 per pint. Some solid choices that are always on the tap list (if you aren't sure what to get) is Cougar Bait, Brown Chicken Brown Cow, Amos Moses, and Shotgun Wedding. You can also get a beer flight if you want to try multiple.
We sat down at the bar and instantly felt right at home. Great staff, friendly people all around. And the beer is very good. We ended up picking up a growler of Amos Moses for tailgating the next night, though my particular favorite was Shotgun Wedding. Just a hint of sweetness. We have really great local beer in Tampa, and we've recently done some sampling in Asheville and out in Oregon. This was as good as anything we've had.
After a long day on the road it was a pleasure to relax, enjoy some great beers and surprisingly delicious truck good. I loved the friendly, unpretentious ambience and listening to an eclectic assortment of country, bluegrass, rockabilly music. Papaws Imperial Red must be sampled. All in all, the focus is clearly on the joy of beer.
