If you are going to visit one distillery and just one distillery make sure it is not this one. The tour offered is very simple and does not really cover the distilling process, but it is rather a beer and bourbon tasting. If you are visiting multiple distilleries, then this becomes more interesting as the process is explained in other places and this is just a tasting that includes beer.
If you find yourself downtown in Lexington, visiting the Town Branch Distillery is a great way to spend an hour. It's a short walk (if you don't take any wrong turns, like we did). They provide a nice overview of their beer brewing and spirits distillery. For $10 you get an hour tour, four tasting tokens and a souviner glass. Really nice facility, very infomative. More merchandise than you could ever want. You can't buy the beers there, but you can buy the bourbon. Everything we tasted was quite good. Highly recommended.
We arrived at this stop about a half hour before they closed. We were able to pay $4 and join the distillery portion of this tour, missing the brewery portion. Not to worry though, they guided us to a bar down the road that does the beer tastings and they have a bogo beer deal until $6. The portion of the tour we joined was well done. They do a hot toddy style bourbon beverage that is really good. The guys in the gift shop were very friendly and chatted with us a little past closing time. We had a really great experience.
This was one of the most fun distilleries on the trail. Their bourbon is fine, but their beer is amazing! Bourbon Barrel Ale is out of this world and I highly recommend going here.
We decided to take some out of town family to Town Branch for a tour and we were highly impressed. The fact that you can tour both the distillery and the brewery makes this a unique experience. The huge copper tanks in the distillery are very impressive, and the bourbon is very good. They are generous with the tastings, and it makes for a very fun day.
Beautiful visitor center and the start to our Bourbon Trail experience. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Offered free admission to active or retired military which we thought was great as not all distilleries have that consideration. Wild Turkey actually wanted proof, which we thought incredulous! Tour was good, but nothing special. Production was limited...but they are growing!
This was the second to last stop on our Bourbon Trail passports. Parking was a bit limited but not a problem. The visitor center and gift shop is very nice, the staff is friendly. The tour gives you lots of options for tasting, between the beers and the spirits, but it wasn't very informational at all and not nearly as in-depth as other distilleries in the area. Pricing for both the tour and the bourbon are on par with the others.
We were doing the Bourbon Trail and didn't really want to take another tour but they were gracious and allowed us to do the tasting. We liked the product and purchased several items.
Our last stop to complete the Bourbon Trail. Nice visitor center and gift shop. The facitlty is quite compact, so there isn't a lot of walking required; as a matter of fact, it was within easy walking distance from downtown. Decent tour guide and we enjoyed the exhibits on the tour. It was also nice to get a chance to sample the Bourbon Ale I get to enjoy occasionally. Good place to visit if you're in the area and are interested in these things.
One of the nicer facilities we have visited on the Bourbon Trail. We enjoyed our tour and a nice change as they have several beers including a tasty IPA. Both Bourbon and Beer tastings. Only a few barrels are aged in this small facility due to city restrictions and limited space. Most of their barrels are aged and stored in Bardstown Kentucky.
5th stop on the Bourbon Trail over 3 days. The tour guide mocked each and every step of the tour starting with the intro video "nothing but an ad pushing our founder's ego but we gotta start here". To rushing us through the brewery (they do that wonderful Kentucky Bourbon Ale), to skipping most details in the distillery "cause you've heard it all and just want to taste." Each and every step seemed to mock the company and its products as hobbies of the founder that the rich can endulge in. All capped off by including mentioning his personal favorites at "better" distilleries. Very poor tour. Not worth the price.Signage is small to nonexistent as to where visitors should go and little attention to accessibility. Other older distilleries were definitely MUCH more educational, loyal, and accessible. Other than
This was our last stop on the bourbon trail and we parked off of Pine St. The tour entrance/gift shop is located next to the Town Branch corner building (can be a little confusing in the rain and you don't see the small eased sign on the sidewalk). You began with a short video, followed by a tour of the brewery/beer tasting and ended with a tour of the distillery/bourbon tasting. You get 4 tastings total and there are 4 bourbons so choose carefully (my husband and I split the 4 beers and 4 bourbons so we could taste them all). Loved the painted horse and barrels in the distillery! HIGHLY recommend grabbing one of the booklets near the register for the tours...has a LOT of history and info about them.
Entrance was clearly labeled but still a little ambiguous. Inside was very clean and all employees were extremely friendly. My friend and I talked to many of them for a while. Our tour guild Del was also awesome and really funny. Very enjoyable tour, took 1 hour but felt way shorter. Definitely would suggest
Town Branch Distillery is a great place you must see in Lexington. They have amazing different types of beer! I was very surprised how many I liked. I'm not a fan of bourbon but tried some anyways. Since I don't drink the stuff I don't have an opinion but considering about 90% of the bourbon made is made in Kentucky I sure those bourbon drinkers out there will love it. I really loved the coffee liquor with whipping cream our tour guide Dale made us!!!
I will be up front. I own a vineyard and am familiar with winery tours which are not that much different than this tour is. You get a lot of information from the tour, had a great tour guide and the tastings were sufficient. The facility is impressive. Very well made, historic and new and well explained. The tour guide I had was super knowledgable. Unfortunately I did not catch his name. My bad. Sorry dude, would give you credit. loved it and got some ideas about our own tours. So good job guys. You created a must-visit in Lexington!!!!
