From the first stop, my daughter- in- law's directed tiger feeding on schedule to the parking lot return , we all enjoyed the numerous animals, such as a polar bear swimming in a tank with a log toy; this could be viewed open sit at water level or under water through windows. Other animals were observed, particularly rhinoceros. giraffes, elephants, gorillas, monkeys, lions, baboons. What was most fun for me was watching my granddaughter watching the animals with her reaction to them. She also enjoyed riding the carrousel with her mommy. I further enjoyed watching my son enjoy his family, along with his photo taking of them. Being a exterminator. I also enjoyed the arranged insect reproductions throughout the zoo. Since it was Father's Day, I got in free, as my family members were able to use their family pass. I look forward to more zoo exploration this year and beyond in this phenomenal family oriented entertainment center.
Love the whole place, the gorillas are awesome. The big cats are my favorite. Plan on stopping back again.
When I got there I was told some of the animals may or may not be out - it's their decision but that wasn't the case. Most encloses were closed due to snow and ice. But it was pretty nice otherwise. Decent size, pretty vacant making for a comfortable and casual experience. I'm sure it'd be great in the summer.
Great great zoo, located closely to downtown. Wonderful asset for the city and wonderful fun for kids.
I love the Louisville Zoo, but by far my favorite exhibit are the gorillas. You are able to see them up close and sit on one of the window ledges and just watch ( for hours at a time if you like). Great place, overall!
For as little as $90 a year you can have an anytime activity that the kids are going to love everytime. The zoo is fantastic educational entertainment for the whole family. We often go in the winter months just to the Herpequarium and The Islands buildings where it's always warm and tropical. When it comes to the zoo itself, it's not as wide open of a zoo as I would like, but they do make the most of the space they have available. There is a great gorilla habitat, as well as an award winning Polar bear exhibit. Hint- the price for one time visit for an adult is $16 with a $5 parking fee (2015). If you think you're likely to go more than once spring for the membership.
We visited the Louisville Zoo in September 2014. It was an okay visit - our children enjoyed it (we have a 5 year old & 1 year old). However, we had been to the Cincinnati Zoo in 2012 and it was much better than the Louisville Zoo. The animals at the Louisville Zoo seemed more cramped in their enclosures. Overall it was not a bad trip, but will probably not make a point to go back very soon.
The animals are generally situated in fairly large containment areas. Pretty much all of the animals you associate with zoos. Excellent gorilla group. A small gauge train goes around the zoo. Nice gift shop.
The zoo isn't for the faint of heart. I am just that. I need a motorized chair to get around. And I would visit more often.
We visited yesterday and paid full price to enter. We then found lots of the areas not open, only one out of 5 cafes open, all vending machines out of order and the only animals out looked as depressed as we felt. Overall the winter weather probably didn't help the atmosphere but you really shouldn't charge full price if many things are shut. The African petting zoo was a highlight but for the wrong reasons - the only animals to pet were a donkey and some goats - not very African!
Very nice zoo, a lot of playgrounds and open space areas for kids to play around in. Some animals weren't out, given the time of year, but we saw quite a bit and had a nice afternoon. Spent about 4 hours there.
We visited the Louisville Zoo on a crisp fall day and were not disappointed. The giraffe exhibit is fabulous and allows up close views and a really neat feeding station. The hippo exhibit was very nice and we got to see a mom and baby interacting. The polar bear area is really nice. We watched the bear play with a log in the above and below water habitat. The zoo was clean and well laid out for a nice walking tour.
It's definitely not the best zoo, but I can not say it was bad. Looks like they are struggling to attract visitors during winter time. Hopefully they can organize some winter activities or maybe open a cafe which works during cold season. The area looks sad without anything going on around. Siberian tiger with a sign in Russian language were amazing and unexpected. Gift shop was surprisingly good. I wish this zoo becomes better.
The zoo has worked really hard to stay current and updated. The grounds are clean and neat. The food is typical of a zoo. The animals are interesting and fun to see. There is plenty of parking. Just lock up valuables. Make sure your car is locked. They have lots of special programs that are fun.
The Louisville Zoo is consistently rated one of the best in Louisville, and is a must see for anyone visiting.
