I and two team members had spent four days in the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness in a summit bid for Granite Pk, MT. That’s four days of freeze dried goodness, dried fruit, nuts, candy bars, jerky, and pumped/pill purified water. We were ready for a real food dinner and a drink. From the Trailhead we figured we’d wind up in Absarkee before we found a restaurant. On the road/highway up we rolled through Fishtail and saw the Cowoy Bar and Supper Club. What the heck? I figured they’d have burgers and what-not bar style food. Late and tired and even a burger would be a huge improvement, and a shorter drive.Upon entry, one side is clearly a bar, with pool tables and maybe even a dance floor. The other side is a restaurant, red vinyl metal chairs and tables and a western motif. Well the menu had steaks and their special was get any steak and you could order crab legs for $12.00. They had filet migon and ribeyes – a couple of other selections but I don’t remember, as I ordered a ribeye and my partners the filet migon ( w/ the crab legs). Both steaks were huge (especially the filet migon) , aged and scrumptious – very good side dishes. This place also had a respectable drink list – from wines to beer. Quite the surprise!!!The menu also had an extensive array of other choices – from hamburgers, to salads, chicken and what-not.Our waitress was attentive and informative.I would definitely eat here again. Whether deprived of real food for nearly a week or coming right in from civilization.
