From the F-80/T-33 out front symbolizing the history of the nearby Glasgow Air Force Base to the Assiniboine teepee they have things that you don't often see. But the Stan's Bar display with the stuffed wildlife and the beautiful back bar is my favorite part. That is a spectacle! Take a look, it is well worth a visit! They also have a good display regarding the local homesteaders, like my Grandfather and Grandmother. There are great stories in that section and in others.
This museum is fantastic for a small town. They feature authenic indian displays, building of Fort Peck Dam, and so much more. Very interesting. They also have a large selection of animal mounts originally put together by a local bar owner and later donated to the museum.
While in Glasgow, there wasn't much to do, but we stumbled across this museum and ended up spending a while in there. There are many different sections, and the back where the old bar and animals were was my favorite part. Something to check out if you're in Glasgow!
Full of amazing and odd historical pieces, the Pioneer Museum in Glasgow, MT is a great place to visit!
This museum interprets life and history of northeast Montana and especially Valley County from the days of the dinosaurs, the Indians, early pioneers, Glasgow Air Base, religion and education. The grounds contain a furnished farm house, a variety of machinery used on farms and ranches and a military plane from the days of the Cold War.
For a small town museum, this one ranks A-1. Gives a great overview of the local community. The dioramas done by local people are extremely well done. And the tribal artifacts are very nicely displayed.
The Pioneer Museum is supported by the Valley County historical society. Something for the whole family to see from dinosaur finds, to a large Assiniboine collection, railroad and aviation items. You will be able to explore the culture of the Hi-Line and the natural heritage found along the Milk River. You will learn about the role Valley County played in aviation history. The highlight for us was the Buffalo Bill Cody Bar, that is beautiful and ornate. It is in the Stan Kalinski Wildlife collection room that sports many mounts, artifacts, saddles, horns, antlers, and furs. Open 7 days a week. Adults $3 children $2 under age 6 free. They do have a web site.
