It's a long hike to the falls but this adventure will make your trip. The bridge is scary and watch out for the look down. Really, the bridge is very safe even if it doesn't feel like it.
This is about 1/3 of a mile or so hike down a trail to the swinging bridge. It isn't difficult if you take your time. It's worth the time and effort. Great view.
I make a point of going to the Kootenai Falls and Swinging Bridge several times a year. It is gorgeous and well worth the effort any season of the year (best if you go and check out during EVERY season). You won't find a better photo op and a great way to get out and stretch the legs and getting your heart pumping a little. Possible even for those not in the best physical shape; just take your time and enjoy the magnificent views all around you!!
Most of my family chickened out on this, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world! Windy day but it was a blast!
This hike to the falls and the bridge was great exercise but very moderate and enjoyable. The falls and the bridge over the gorge were breathtaking and great for photos.
The hike down to the falls is short and totally worth it. The trek over to the bridge is a little longer, but still quick and not too difficult. The bridge feels well put together, but it does sway and the wind can wreak havok on your balance and nerves!
This was one awesome bridge! It did sway quite a bit, but if you can manage to overcome all your fears and walk that bridge, you will be gifted one awesome view. This is an activity worth doing, you don't want to miss out.
It is well worth the trip out to Libby and the short hike to see the falls. The swinging bridge a challenge that I could not take. The narrow bridge that spans the river bounces and sways as it suspends out over the river at a considerable height. Only saw a few people actually go the entire length of bridge and back. If you are adventurous to for it. If not go see the falls its worth it. A word of wArning. Be careful and stay on the trail. I saw a women try to take a short cut up a hill loose her balance and fell down the hill into the rocks and she has a very serious laceration across her head and face.
If you are going to Glacier National Park via North Idaho Hwy 2, make sure you stop at Kootenai Falls. The little ice cream stand serves really good ice cream and the hike to the falls and/or the bridge is easy and gorgeous! Don't forget your camera!
It is long and really swings. Our dog refused to try. You are way up in the air, water gushing under you...beautiful falls at a distance. The hike from the main road is short and there is an ice cream stand by the parking lot. Bright idea for a summer visit.
Great short hike to falls and suspension bridge over the rapids. Excellent interpretive signsBenches to rest along the way. Don't get too close to the edge. There are no barriers along the river. The steps up and down over the railroad tracks may be a challenge for some physically challenged folks. Dogs may be reluctant to walk on surfaces that they can see through. Be prepared for a short carry. We went to the falls first(follow sign to right), then we went to the bridge. The gal at the ice cream stand really loves dogs. If she's not busy she may come over to greet your pet. Wear non-slip shoes and maybe a jacket. It's cooler and humid near the water. Excellent for all ages. Keep children close near the water.
the bridge is scary, but it was fun once I began walking over it. the trail in the forest was beautiful.
While traveling, saw cars parked in parking area and wondered what was so interesting. Stopped, read signs, hiked to falls. Well worth the time and effort. Homemade ice cream stand right before entering the hike area. Didn't have any since we had just had pie and with ice cream at Libby Cafe in Libby, MT. Looked good.
A wonderful photo opportunity. The swinging bridge over the Kootenai River must not be missed. The Kootenai River comes out of Canada to the Libby Dam forming Lake Koocanusa. A beautiful area with great fishing and beautiful scenery.
It was a pleasant hike down to the falls, you cross over the railway line by a well designed bridge.Good opportunity to get good photographs of the train if you are lucky enough to be there at the right time. The water falls were magnificent this time of year.A long a bit further there is the swing bridge across the Kootenal RiverThe track is good and not hard going
