If you like candy, you'll like the Sweet Palace. I can't think of one item that they did not carry from fudge, truffles, gummy everythings, chocolate covered anything, sweet and sour confections, you name it! The prices for most of the candy was $7.95/pound. The truffles, grizzly paws, turtles and chocolate bark was more like $16 per pound, so if that's your thing, it can get quite pricey. However, the charm of the store front and the choices offered make it a worthwhile splurge in my opinion. If you are in the tiny town of Philipsburg, The Sweet Palace is not to be missed.

You absolutely cannot go to Phillipsburg and not check this place out! Great candy selection for the kids, but also fine chocolates and taffy for all to enjoy. they use centuries-old machinery and processing techniques that make you feel like you are getting a museum AND a candy experience in one! Great place!

Open every day but Saturday, The Sweet Palace is a one-of-a-kind destination. Well worth a detour if you're traveling I-90. Bring the kids - they're welcome and they'll love it. Parents rediscover the wonder of their youth here too. 700+ varieties of candy - house made taffy, fudge, chocolates and more. And, if you're not overcome by all that, you can enjoy the historic simplicity of the store interior - restored tin ceiling, the old hardware store bins that now hold candy rather then nuts and bolts. Often you can watch the antique taffy puller working up new batches of saltwater taffy. If you can't make up your mind, the staff will be pleased to assist.

I initially walked by the store, showing incredible restraint, but then I turned back and entered and I was glad I did! I was greeted by an employee who explained how the store worked with the pricing structure and he offered me a piece of taffy. I grabbed a bag and started adding a bit if this and some of that, working my way around the walls. It is a bit overwhelming and I am sure I missed some shelves but I came out with a good sized bag of candy and even a cool birthday gift at a very reasonable price. I am eating huckleberry fudge as I type this review and it is amazing. Well worth a stop.

The Sweet Palace is not for the faint of heart... but for the true lover of Chocolate and other sweets. Everyone is so nice and again the chocolate is to die for. They also make their own fudge and taffy. They also have a whole wall of "old" time candies that you are not going to find at your local stores. The Sweet Palace is well worth the trip out of your way feed your sweet tooth and experience great chocolate.

The Sweet Palace is the first stop whenever we visit Philipsburg Montana. My husband and I are newly weds. We stopped at the Sweet Palace on our honeymoon. The stop was as usual, a hightlte to our honeymoon tour. The relationship we have as a couple is as sweet and the Sweet Palace. The staff is friendly and helpful whenever we have been there. And we like to look at Mr. Frog at the top of the stairs. All of the wooden tables upstairs are beautiful and well placed.Phillipsburg is so fortunate to have such a clean, well run, and fun business in "P" burg. Besides the candy is to die for. If we escape with $50 worth of candy, it is unusual. We hoard and enjoy each delicious morse of candy.Job well done Sweet Palace.PS. My husband and I are 73 and 79 year old newly weds-Life is good and sweet just like the Sweet PalacePatricia Prinzing

We were told this is the largest candy store in the west. I believe it. They had everything in a wonderful historic building. You have to step in if you are in Philipsburg!

Never have I seen so much candy in my life! This was a great place to visit, and I will certainly be back. The employees here are all so happy! The homemade taffy is terrific.

You can't go to Phillipsburg and not go to The Sweet Palace. Wow! Every kind of candy you can think of - taffy, caramel, hard candy, fudge and much, much more. The prices are very reasonable and you can mix and match everything but the fudge. I walked out with 2 lbs of candy and a half pound of fudge for $20. Had fun browsing the shop.

We visit here each time we come to Philipsburg. I'm a chocoholic so I don't even get past the fudge selection and moose and bear tracks to get to the candy. Sometimes, they demonstrate taffy making with their old fashioned machine, which is cool. Lots of historic charm and a must see in southwest Montana.

On one of our road trip days during my recent visit to my bestie, "Thelma's" in Missoula, we heard from a friend about a candy store in Philipsburg, MT and since it was on our way, we went.Philipsburg, MT is a small used-to-be-mining town with a population of around 820 residents. It is the county seat of Granite County and is now trying to rebuild itself with tourism. From the main street there are breathtaking mountain views, and the buildings look much as they must have in the late 1800's. It's truly and "old West" town. There are quite a few shops and some are very unique and tourism oriented. We were there early in the morning, and some shops weren't open, and others didn't open this early in the season. It had snowed a few inches overnight, and was crisp, cold, sunny and peaceful.I can imagine if you lived here, you might not love that there might not be much to do.We looked in several shops before stumbling onto the candy store we had heard about. The Sweet Palace is not to be missed. It's simply amazing. It is a BEAUTIFUL store with hardwood floors and glass cases and antique shelving/cabinetry. Everything is arranged with great attention to detail. It was an 1890's Victorian confectionery and when purchased in 1998 it had been a hardware store. They claim to have over 750 types of candy, including 50 varieties of fudge and 72 flavors of saltwater taffy. They also say they have 20 varieties of caramels and 70 options for sugarless confections. I'm telling you...go!I'm not much of a "hard candy" person or a "taffy" person, so that narrowed the field considerably. I put together a box of fudge for my Sweet Baboo, and a box for me. They had a lot of truffles too. Oh heavens there was a lot of candy. They are not hard to find as the main street of Broadway is small, but their address is 109 E. Broadway in Philipsburg. Phone number 1-888-SWEET-XO (793-3896), or 406-859-3353, Fax 406-859-3631. Visit their website via the provided links. You can email them at candy@sweetpalace.com They are probably willing to ship too! Their brochure says they are open Sun-Fri 10-6 in summer and 10-5 in winter (year round), closed Saturdays.Enjoy the photos. Better yet, go visit. The fudge was fantastic by the way. I think it ran about $11 a pound, and the candy along the side walls was a flat rate of around $8 a pound, mix and match. Watch your budget, you can go broke in a heartbeat at these prices. It's an experience for all your senses.

I was recently in Montana visiting my boyfriends parents when they decided to take us on a scenic tour to some of the small towns on the western side of Montana. Philipsburg was a charming little town with a brewery, an amazing BBQ place, and of course this candy store. As soon as we walked into the store the owner greeted us and told us how the store worked. All of the assorted candies can be mixed and matched into a bag which costs $7 a pound. The caramel s. chocolates, and fudge are all homemade, and taste incredibly fresh. Don't forget to try a free sample of the fudge, the owner gives you a huge slice, probably the biggest sample size i have ever seen. Overall, this store is very charming and is must visit when in Montana.

The Sweet Palace is a sugar junkie's paradise...yep, it's pricey, but how can you put a price on pure pleasure? If you don't, at the very least, saddle up to the counter and ask for a sample of AT LEAST one of the dozens of different fudges, you're a fool. This trip, I tried the lemon cream (only available in the summer months) and was blown away. We walked away w/ a bag of sour candy for our son, a bag of old fashioned candy (some of this stuff you can't find anymore except from online specialty stores), and a 1/4 lb each of pistachio cream and rocky road fudge. It's really part of the whole Pburg experience and I am so glad that there is such a bright spot in town to truly indulge your inner child...but be careful, if you have kiddies, the tendency to overindulge is there too (we saw a father cringe when all was rung up and they were shelling out over 50 bucks for candy!)

It is astonishing to find a candy store with such an extensive selection in this small town in the middle of nowhere. Even if you don't like candy, this former-hardware-store convert is worth the visit for the decor alone. Try the many flavors of caramels - especially licorice! You won't leave without something you like. But plan ahead - it's closed on Saturdays.
