Once you have been here you will always return. There is no place on earth more magical!!! See you soon!
Flathead Lake is a beautiful place. The only problem is Flathead Lake is that there are a lot of homes on the lake and it is hard to find a quiet beach to relax. There are some beautiful hotels on the lake so take advantage of those. The state parks are nice but they're crowded in the summer enjoy your trip to Flathead Lake
You must put this in the #1 spot on your list of must do next!I have been here many times and even had the privilege of living here a few years ago. I can't put into words how many incredible memory's I have of Flathead Lake. No matter how you are feeling, the majestic, glorious sites you will encounter here will never leave you. Please plan enough time to experience the entire lake, from ploson to kalispel, Big Fork to Summers. Rent a boat or jet ski to get the Whole experience. you will not regret any time you spend here.
Clear, clean water, beautiful mountain vistas.... Excellent fishing and swimming resource with quaint towns in several locations around the shores.
Maybe even prettier in the winter. The Mission mountains looming near the lake have such a personality that each day they look different with their snow capped peaks and granite cliffs. The lake itself yields gorgeous rocks this time of year with the water level down. You have never seen a lake with more different colors of stones that make up its beaches.
Flathead, even with its relatively recent popularity, remains a gorgeous piece of fresh water, crystal clear and with rocky shores unspoiled by vegetation or litter. The drive around the lake from either shore is wonderful, but the East Side is more secluded and more idyllic, although a longer route due to the road. This piece of Northern Montana has to be on a short list of things to see and do
Of course, I live here, so I'm biased, but Flathead Lake is pretty special. If you're visiting NW Montana, don't miss a stop to see the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi! It was also recently ranked as the cleanest lake in North America, which probably has something to do with being glacier-fed. Yes, those glaciers make the water darned cold, but it's also one of the most beautiful bodies of water in the US. The bright blue water, set against the backdrop of the magnificent Mission Mountains is a view that should be experienced. And, if you gaze out at the water long enough, you might just spot the infamous Flathead Lake Monster floating by.
This is a piece of paradise. I came here in fall of 2014. Nice to see all the colors of the leaves changing and the such. Such a beutiful lake.
Its huge, fresh water, beautiful. We lived in Montana for a long while at one time and Flathead is always where its calming, peaceful, beautiful, natural.
My sister arrived in Missoula from Ohio and we headed towards Glacier. Upon reaching Flathead in Polson, we were awestricken at the immense body of water as well as the blueness and glistening from the sun. We ate at lunch at a Mexican restaurant on the waterfront in town, then headed over to Kerr Dam. What an incredible view! Just breathtaking vistas of the dam and the mountains. We drove up through Big Arm towards Glacier and just enjoyed what we saw. That evening we stayed at the Evergreen Cabins in Coram, MT, 7 miles from the west entrance to GNP. Dinner and breakfast were eaten at Glacier Grill; the food and portions were fabulous. I do recommend this eatery! The day was spent in GNP, which is an undescribable spot. We then headed back to my house in the Bitterroot Valley via the Big Fork side of Flathead. All the way there and all the way home, our eyes were wide open to the beauty that surrounded us. I strongly recommend a trip to Flathead and GNP. You won't regret it. I have another friend arriving in 10 days and we're headed that way again. Hope to go to National Bison Range.
This was an attraction that we could have bypassed if limited on time. I like dams but there was not a lot to see the day that we were there. Probably attributed to the time of year.No charge so the price was right.
My husband and I spent 4 days here last summer. We rented a boat one afternoon and had an amazing time on Flathead Lake. It was a windy day so the boat rental place encouraged us to go up the river towards the damn.. The water was a brilliant shade of blue and we rode up to the damn. Perfect afternoon!
While I didn't have time to spend enjoying this lake, I will definitely go back, staying in BigFork or Polson.
Pristine water, low crowds and tons of fun.Did canoeing and kayaking water skiing and swimming. The weather changes fast up there so be aware of the forecast.Did not have enough time to visit Wild Horse island
