Mike is very knowledgable and was very patient with me since it was only my 2nd time fishing!! He was prompt, helpful and encouraging. And the lunch was fantastic!!

This March will be my third early spring in a row fishing with Mike. I couldn't imagine a more enjoyable experience. From the peaceful, beautiful conditions you fish in, to the excitement of fish after fish that Mike puts you on, every moment is amazing. Mike is very patient and mixes wading and drift fishing nicely.The best part is that Mike gets as excited as I do when I hook a fish. Mike and another of his guides took us on a family trip on the Madison River in late July. The trip was my wife and I and our daughter and son ages 12 and 11 with two and a guide in each boat. We've been on a few guided fly fishing trips over the years and Mike is one of the best guides we've been with. He knew the river well. Most of all, he really taught our kids how to fly fish the right way. He was patient with the kids and really worked hard to get us into position to catch fish. We all caught lots of fish on a fly or nymph. His equipment and flies are top notch. The lunch by the river was fantastic too!We will definitely be returning to fish with Mike in the future.

My partner and I fished with Mike on the Beaverhead on July 25, 2013. We were provided a very full day on a river that is heavily fished. Despite heavy river traffic, Mike structured our day in such a way that we actually contended with very few others. We actually had relative solitude on crowded waters--no small accomplishment. The trip went off as planned with no unpleasant surprises like, "Oh there will be a charge of $35 for flies." NONE of that. Michael proved to be personable, extremely competent, and utterly professional. Most importantly, he had us on fish ALL day. We landed 25+ fish that day and several were 20" or better. When I return to the Beaverhead I will book Mike without hesitation. Thanks for a great day!

I booked Fishtales guide Mike Stack for a trip in April on the Big Hole and it was incredible. I had my mom with me, a first time Fly-Fisher, and she caught a bunch of trout. After the trip she told me she wanted to book Mike for two more days next time we were in Montana. Mike was extremely patient and very helpful in teaching my mom how to cast, set the hook and fight the fish. Meanwhile, I was in the back of the boat streamer fishing, and Mike never missed a single run or hole, putting me on fish continuously while at the same time he was teaching my mom. I was more than impressed with his rowing skills, fishing knowledge, and knowledge on all the local rivers. I learned so much that I had no problem finding fish on the other local rivers by myself after the trip. My dad and I have been fly-fishing for 15 years and we still fish with Mike everytime we are in Montana. He is a cool guy, an amazing guide, and a great teacher. We have fished with him on the Madison, Jefferson, Big Hole and the Beaverhead and had tremendous success everytime. He will work hard all day to make sure your fly floats through every hole in the river. He will even row back UPSTREAM to let you float through the good holes again. A year ago, Mike Stack was recommended to me. My wife and I were planning our first trip to Montana, and I sorely wanted her to connect with some fish. This was only my second opportunity to engage a guide, but it really paid off. Mike is a gentleman and proved a tremendous host. I think the fact that he enjoyed his work that day put my wife at ease. We were on fish all day long. I left a couple of "must have been xx" fish after some long battles. So far this year, I have floated the Big Hole River on two seperate occasions with Mike Stack of FishTales Outfitting. Both trips were excellent! Mike is a very experienced guide. He reads a river and positions the boat for success after success. Mike is patient, attentive, and calm. He even takes the time to make personalized videos of the adventure for his clients...super cool with underwater releases!
