The Jefferson Valley Museum was developed by volunteers and is still run by local volunteers. There is no entry fee; but, donations are accepted. The museum is housed in an old barn on the south side of town. Besides interesting displays there are surprising bits of history about the Whitehall area like news broadcaster Chet Huntley (Huntley-Brinkley Report from the 1960s-70s) being a graduate of the local high school; the first woman elected to congress taught school in Whitehall; and, a newly restored phone switchboard can be demonstrated by the staff and visitors can talk to each other on old style crank phones.
