Lake Elmo is a small lake on the edge of Billings. It's a great place to wade with the kids or take a walk.
After growing up on a massive lake and living on the ocean in Hawaii, this little pond didn't really do much for me, but I guess if it's the only option for water in the area, it will have to do! There was a little trail all the way around it, so you can walk your dog for about 10 minutes if you want. It also features a sand beach for people only and a small, unimpressive dog beach.
Free if you have a Montana license plate.Very nice place in town to sit by the water, go swimming or just relax for the day..
We came to Billing for the summer from Florida due to my husbands job and went to Lake Elmo several times. It is very clean, calm, refreshing park to get out of the city with out driving that far. Yes it is no Glacier State Park or Yellowstone but if your looking for a nice family spot to go cool off in or maybe do some fishing (like my 6yr old son and husband) or float the lake on a raft (like my daughter and I) then this is the perfect spot for you! We really enjoyed it.
For this being a state park, they have the dog park section way off in the back in stagnant water where our pets can get sick. They expect us to go out there and swim with them in these horrible conditions. I attempted to swim around the boat ramp, however I was kicked out. WHAT BOATS?? Seriously, it's horrible out there!
This is such a sweet little lake and park. There's a wonderful dog park section, little kids and their parents and other folks too fish the lake. Sometimes they even catch a fish. It's stocked, I think with brown trout. There are picnic tables in some sections of the park. The lake is in the Billings Heights where I live and I take my little dog there frequently in the summer.
It is small lake with water mostly from irrigation runoff. The beach is good, the restroom facilities are clean. There is a wonderful playground area for the kids. The water is not clean and there are big bottom feeding fish that come right up to the shallow water. If your kids like that, then that could be an added bonus.
It is a great place to try kayaking or paddle boarding because there are no motorized vehicles. There is a nice little beach and a picnic shelter. This is a city park so it is busy in the summer. There is a boat launch.
I live just a few blocks away. I read in local paper that this is most visited state park, how sad. Montana has such beauty & recreation to offer and Lake Elmo is not indicative of this. Lake Elmo is nothing but a glorified puddle. Out of state tourists that know a real lake when they see one, will question the false advertising that led them to this local dirty splash pool.
This is a nice tiny lake on the edge of town. The water itself is the main attraction, as the banks are just grass without much shade.
The fish are stocked so there is fishing, and if you stick to the beach area you have lifeguards. Nice path around it for running/walking/biking. Nothing really bad to say about it.
Great little park with a lot of swimming and small boating. It's relatively quiet, when the nearby trap range is not being used. There is also an off-leash area to swim your dog.
Nice lake. Pretty clean. Nice trail around the lake. Not real big enough for motorized boating but it is close to Billings. Nice facilities and parking. Enjoyed swimming there.
for a local state park it was a ..... afternoon get away.
We go here a lot during the summers. Even with the limited shade, we always have fun as a family. This is a small lake on the edge of Billings, MT and has a nice beach. There is also a play ground and a boat launch. We sometimes take our canoe and paddle around. There is also a snack truck there, but a bit we always pack out lunch and snacks. There are out door showers and a bathroom with changing areas, too. This is a great way to stay cool and spend very little money.
