Had a great weekend at Davis Cup. Can't fault anything but FOOD!! What food?? Ate before we got there on Friday expecting to get late lunch/sandwiches during the afternoon. Nothing, was told they had sold out and this was 3.00ish... We were there until the second match ended and as tennis fans didn't want to leave. Food outside apparently but that's not much use. Next two days took sandwiches... Drinks didn't seem much better luckily we'd taken bottles of water. Be warned:- the terms and conditions of the tickets say that no food/drink can be taken in!! Very poor.
this venue is good the only down side is the food but I am always at it as I watch the glasgow rocks playing basketball
Came here for the Revolution cycling event. First visit to track cycling and really enjoyed the experience. Reasonably comfortable seating close to the action. Non stop racing all afternoon with very little breaks in the action. Was not to keen on the overpriced and tasteless food on offer. If you're into cycling give this a try and you won't be disappointed.
Well worth a visit to see the velodrome but also other attractions in tbe same area. Celtic's football ground is across the road, the Emerites stadium connected to the velodrome and the housing estate nearby which housed the athletes participating in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.Booking in advance to all the venues is highly recommended.Only a 15-20 bus ride from the town centre.
First off, the track surface is brilliant and fast compared to older venues. The coaches are professional and don't respond well to joking around as they are there to ensure you are following instructions and are not engaging in dangerous maneuvers. The booking system is straightforward for anyone who has used a computer before and the fact that the Accreditation level one is perpetually booked is testament to that. After you negotiate level one you will find it a lot easier to book subsequent levels as most people are just turning up to ride once which is frustrating to many actual cyclists who have a genuine interest in going along to track league and drop-in sessions.Levels one and two last an hour, levels three and four for two hours and as such cost twice as much although bikes, helmet and shoes are included in the price if you don't have your own.
Atmosphere was electric. Very warm when full though. Air conditioning needs to be on. I would highly recommend this venue.
The velodrome is located far from the city centre (Glasgow) but you can reach by rail for just a few cheap pounds. The velodrome was mainly for my track cycling accreditation course and you need to book the accreditation online before coming. The tracks were wide and well maintained but the course instructor was a little cold towards the students.
Good venue but let down by the people using it. The Glasgow Life staff at the reception are friendly and helpful, booking system not easy to use online but the desk staff a good. The café in the reception area is a bit cold in the winter and the service is a bit slow but overall it probably gets pass marks. However in the velodrome the people using the track are split into 2 camps. The ordinary riders who out to improve there fitness and speed, whether they are fast of slow these guys are generally easy going, friendly and helpful. The other team can make the velodrome a very unfriendly place to be. Glasgow Life run the velodrome and sponsor a few riders and these riders are arrogant and treet other riders like dirt, shouting and swearing at people they obviously believe should not be in 'their' velodrome. In the few occasions I have been in after my accreditation I have heard them falling out with someone most times. If Glasgow Life cannot change their riders obnoxious personalities they should at least do something about they way they abuse paying customers before many more, like me, probably wont be back. Or perhaps that's what they actually want.
I visit velodromes frequently for riding and to watch events in the UK. I visited this velodrome on its opening night, the World Cup event 2013. I was so disappointed. Smaller than Manchester and oh so uncomfortable. Extra seats were on scaffolding platforms, obviously taken down when smaller events would be scheduled and probably replaced for the Commonwealth games later this year..I live in Surrey and did not attend the revolution series event, 1, it was too far for one night, 2 its uncomfortable, 3 there were no amenities other than toilets (unless this has changed) don't expect any food to be available. I prefer Manchester and Stratford.
Booking for cycling sessions in the velodrome is via the Glasgow LIfe online booking system which is inefficient and misleading. The sessions are really popular and so you have to be there right at the start to book them - but here's the thing - there's no information on the website to say when bookings open and when you phone the staff, they are helpful and tell you it's 31 days in advance but the time that they give you is incorrect. No-one appears to know when the online bookings open. The website is also not working as it deosn't show you all the classes that are open for booking.Result is hours wasted and disappointment for the person whose present this was to be.
We visited the velodrome this week to see the Revolution cycling event. Great fun, but the seats are seriously uncomfortable!
