Myself and 13 friends took one of the rafting adventure trips that was suitable for beginners that also included an early morning breakfast. The food was awesome. There was a lot of it and a wide enough variety that no one went hungry. It was chilly and rainy the day we went down river. There were rafting jackets and pants available for rental at an affordable price that many of us took advantage of. Our guides were knowledgeable gave excellent direction and made the trip very safe and fun for all of us. I will do this again as well as my friends. It was an awesome experience.
I took my brother, first time rafter, down the Gauley River in reverse with Rivermen. Doing the Lower Gauley the first day was perfect for us to get some confidence and prepare for the Upper. Experience is not necessary if you are riding with a guide like Jo-Beth. We always felt safe and enjoyed a number of laughs from her joke book. The food was better than anticipated and our stay in the Sportsman's Lodge was comfortable. I am already planning a return trip next year with my wife and two teenage daughters. Thanks for a wonderful experience.
First timer - Cassie was a phenomenal guide! She taught our daughter some tips and let her do a "guide" and we will definitely return
Great trip Kevin trip leader did excellent job explaining safety and believe me I put it to good use our guide Brewster also did a great job and would definetlly raft with those 2 againGary Goforth (lost paddle)
We were looking forward to a no holds barred rafting trip after our first time last year on the Ocoee. This was part of our Adventures on the Gorge reservation, but I reviewed the zip line already so can't add this to Adventures on the Gorge reviews unless I wait three months... Although the Lower Gauley wasn't as exciting as we had hoped, our guide made all of the difference. Kira has an amazing voice and crazy, zany personality. She kept us laughing throughout the trip and safely guided us through the few rougher patches on the Gauley that we did hit. There was a lot more smooth patches then we had anticipated, but Kira kept us entertained--she has a great voice and would often sing some river tunes--especially if we needed let kayakers know we were coming through. I would definitely request Kira again on a return trip--the Gauley can be tame or hair-raising depending on the level of water--should have done the Upper Gauley but my daughter wasn't old enough... The lunch break is a nice spread and includes hot good (steamed portobello mushroom if you're vegetarian). Delicious and satisfying. All guides were great; we would definitely use AOG again for rafting and zipping.
I had the best experience with Class VI - NOT the same as River Man by the way. Adventures on the Gorge represents a group of different companies. Highly recommend them and as I have never been white water rafting - this was an awesome experience! First off to DAVE C - this is not amusement ride - and idiots like you are putting yourselves and others in danger - I am glad that she was able to put you in your place and keep everyone save. I have just recently come back from my adventure on Sept 15 - we did not have Margaret, our guide was Link - who is fantastic. Margaret was one of the guides in our group - of which all were VERY PROFESSIONAL. So Dave - grow up and act like a man so the adults around you won't have to treat you like an immature child.
Weekend was Gauleyfest- reputed to always rain- and it did, in spades! The Lower Gauley was running at x2 normal release levels, Everything was more precarious- Class3's were now class 4s and Woods ferry, Koontz Flume and Heaven's Gate were chewing up and spitting out boaters. Dont even get me started on "Pure Screaming Hell". After reading Margaret's previous reviews, we requested her- knowing that that she would keep us in-line ;). Those of us that went out, came back- wet and well-challenged. Margaret kept us safe and molded the 2 groups of strangers into a team. I would say "disciplined fighting force" but one of the guys kept trying to allay his fears by renaming the more difficult rapid's names into safer one's like "grandma's hug", so I hesitate to allude to a "fighting force". Still Margaret did NOT call us "sh?theads" has had previously been claimed- although Im sure that title WAS richly deserved. We all came back with stories and without injury (although very, very wet). My girlfriend was uncertain before, but is now looking forward to her kayaking lessons so she can play with the big kids! Thanks Margaret!
Thank you for your response. We are sorry to hear you had an unfavorable experience while visiting Adventures On the Gorge. In situations such as this, our management team likes to take the time to investigate what our guests report. Extensive conversations have taken place with both the guide in question as well as our River Managers. She is aware her actions were unprofessional, but was attempting to prevent a dire situation from happening. Though we want our guests to have fun, we also want them to be safe. There are risks involved with our activities and when these situations arise emotions can run high. The area where this incident occurred can have big consequences for swimmers and your guide was trying to get this point across in a bold manner. That being said, we do not condone the language used. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact our office directly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and your group.
We had an excellent time rafting the lower New River. Our guide Alexis was excellent. She was very personable and took time to get to know each of us. A very satisfying lunch was provided in the full day trip, with cold cuts, salads, veggies, dessert, etc. The only problem we encountered was in tipping our guide. There is no way to carry money on the trip, so we rushed back to our car to grab the tip money. When we returned, all of the guides had left to "do the dishes." We were told that they would return in 45 min to watch the video (that we could purchase for an extra fee). We were headed home and did not want to stay an extra couple hours. No one else on the trip was hanging around either, so I am afraid that the guides do not get the tips that they deserve.
Went on our 2nd trip with them yesterday, they continue to excel in just about everything. The river was awesome, the rafts in great (safe) condition, and our guide Chris Hayes was spectacular. The river us always fun....what makes the trip stand out as a lasting great memory is top-notch execution like the team at Rivermen.A huge thank you for a great trip...and a shout-out to Chris for helping us to enjoy it so much. Well Played.
Returned to Rivermen after a 15 year hiatus. And even though they merged with other companies, the service was still excellent. Mad at myself for not coming back sooner.
I recently went rafting with Rivermen on the Upper Gauley... I had the time of my life... The guides are professional,,, and are well versed in keeping you enjoying your day... They teach you alot about yourself... Aswell as teaching you the importance of working well with other people...This is a must do if your going to be in the area during Gauley season... Love it
Visited off of recommendations, and we had a great time. We did the family fun trip. The value was great, and the laughter and smiles on my daughters face proved it! The staff was great no matter where you were. Nice facilities. Great food. We're already planning for our return! I highly recommend this for the family.
Took a group of 9, three families of three, and most had not been rafting before. I have been many times before, and the old ways are gone. A lot more commercial stuff, which is probably good for the average person or family. Our team had a great time, and the guide is who makes the difference. We got Koreen and she did a really good job. Knew the river, had some good stories about the river, and kept everyone engaged. Because it was summer, the water was low compared to the spring, but it was up above normal. We will be back to try the Gualey next.
They lost power the night we got there. They had no emergency plan during a tornado. They served dinner the next night and I got food poisoning. Our rafting guide didn't like his job. He hardly spoke to us the whole river trip and yelled at us for not paddling. He acted like he didn't want to be there.
