My husband and I both enjoy exploring old churches, for both the historical and architectural significance. The Old Stone Church is a lovely place, very simple and calm. It was unlocked when we stopped in, and there was a little pamphlet at the front telling the history of the church. The surrounding cemetery is nice to walk around and appreciate all of the past lives laid to rest.

Don't miss a trek through the old cemetery and stop at the North House for information on all the cool spots in town!

We stopped by for a moment to allow boys (age 8 and10) to roam around and appreciate the dates on the numerous stones that represent previous lives. Finding and reading the dates and calculating ages and how many years ago the person lived among us was an eye opener for their little, usually in the current, minds. Finding a brochure to help explain some of the historical moments was very helpful, but in general roaming the cemetery was enough.

Was told by a WV resident to stop at Lewisburg as she said it is one of the state's most charming towns. Happened upon this church and it definitely caught my attention. It was built in the 1790's and is adjacent to a beautiful grave yard. The church was not open, but enjoyed walking around the building and the churchyard. It is just down the street from the Carnegie building. Definitely worth a look when you are in Lewisburg.

First time into Lewisburg (I am a Lewis), my husband and I walked around the town, coming upon this lovely church. It wasn't open, however, we were quite taken with the old graveyard. I walked past a couple of graves, and right to the grave of John Lewis, of the 1700's - an ancestor of mine! This graveyard is extremely old, so it is very rich in the history that few of us can get close to - do not miss it! Due to the nature of this graveyard, it is not for those who have walking-assisted devices such as walkers or wheelchairs.

We got to see inside the church and hear some stories from a local tour guide. The church is very neat inside but the coolest stories are out in the graveyard!

Visited the church to gather some information about my ancestors who are buried there. It is a beautiful stone church and the grounds are immaculately maintained.

Wonderful old church with an interesting history and graveyard. Be sure to see the last collection taken during the Civil War.

Historic and intersting. Lewisburg is filled with at least 13 confederate landmarks. Go by the church on an autumn night and you wil think you are in New England without the ocean. TO attend chruch I always recoomed the Episcopla Church in Whtie Sulphur Springs.

As a part of a day trip to Lewisburgh, WV, the "Coolest Small Town in the US for 2011" according to Budget Travel, we included a stop at the Old Stone Presbyterian Church. What a delight for historians! Organized in 1783 and built in 1796, it is the oldest continually operating church West of the Alleghennies (And that covers a lot of territory!)The interior is elegant in its simplicity and surrounds you with sunshine and a sense of peace. It was used as an emergency hospital during the Civil War.What we found equally fascinating was a walk through the adjacent cemetery -- some of the tombstones evoke sadness, but others carry remarkably amusing sayings as well. To read about an intrepid explorer from the 1800's who died in Alexandria, Egypt or come across the grave of a "favorite consort" makes for an interesting stroll. The church and cemetery are easily accessible from the main street of the town, just about a block and a half south on Church Street. You won't regret making the stop!
