This is a nice little part of Logan County. There is plenty of pretty scenery and sights to see. There are Christmas lights during Winter!
I love Christmas Lights, this was perfect to drive thru the park and see all the scenes with Christmas Music on the radio. They have a gift shop as well. Just a simple donation to the park.
I've attended this jam session summer/winter/spring and fall seasons since 2006, with the last visit June 28, 2014. Always fun. Sometimes the band Blackberry Jam is playing there. George's local band is often there, with occasional band from the tri-state area. It's free of charge (donations) and the best VW chilli-slaw hotdogs are in the donations-only food stand. Bring your instrument and join one of the back room jam sessions or show up with a band early and get a 30 minute time slot to perform on stage (after a short, non-formal audition). Genre is mainly Bluegrass, old country, newer country, local music, and soul-felt self-compositions. If you play a good dance song some local cloggers and square dancers will get on the dance floor and bring down the roof. Directions: entrance is off RT 10 side, not the 119 side. Anyhow, driving back make the left turn after a few miles and you will find a dedicated build built by the hands of the legendary VN-USMC Vet George Frye. Sat 6-10pm Pickin n park at Chief Logan State Park.
The park was great for taking pictures, and great for kids, my girls loved it!!!! The creepy looking cabin was awesome, it scared my girls! LOL!!!! One bad thing was the visitors museum was closed during regular hours, so we didn't get to visit that, which was a bummer!!!!! We really wanted to go inside, but we only got to peek thru the Windows. It was disappointing because it didn't even have a sign as to why it was closed during visiting hours and it didn't say when it would open back up.
My family has spent a great deal of time at the park. When our kids were young we would plan outdoor activities and go for a picnic. There is so much to do. There is trails to walk on, there is a pool. Our kids loved splashing around in the creek. During the Christmas holiday season the park is decorated with colorful lighted displays. Chief Logan state park is tops.
The good: The park is beautiful, truly beautiful. The pool and the picnic facilities are well spread out and maintained with lots of play ground equipment and restrooms.(can't speak for the cleanliness of these restrooms)The bad: The campground! The campsites are a mixed bag of too large and too small but most are usable. The campground is relatively quiet BUT the traffic is really bad. It seems to be on the list of things to do for that area. At times you feel like a lab rat with people constantly driving by sightseeing with cars loaded with people. There is NO "campers only " signage, there is no monitoring of the traffic in and out, and there is nothing more than a posted speed limit which everyone, including the rangers and their trash folks promptly ignore!!!!! You have to watch your kids every minute - they can't leisurely ride their bikes or scooters for the constant traffic...The UGLY - well the campground shower house/restroom - is very ugly. Really Really ugly and not just in looks but more so in cleanliness. Really BAD! and in summary! While I wouldn't go back we did have a good time, the park is truly beautiful and with just a little effort to accommodate the campers desire for privacy and cleanliness it could be a great camping destination.
