We have taken our kids, then our grandkids, and now our great grandkids. The displays and trails are a best trip for all of them. Easy drive from Watoga State Park, Hillsboro, and Marlinton. There are animal exhibits - bear, deer, snakes, etc. displayed. Some days there are guest speakers to show kids (and adults ) different nature programs. The rangers and other workers are always eager to explain things and help you. A great variety of nature and historical books are also there for sale.
The nature center provided interesting information and the hiking areas offered us some lovely vistas. We enjoyed the variety of trees being labeled and the historical information given.
Young children will love this!! Mine loved making different animal tracts in the sand. Lots of animal displays! Great place for a rest stop before heading back out. Will stop again!!
We enjoyed the topographical map display, stuffed animal exhibit, numerous live snake exhibits, interactive "animal tracks" display and even the animal droppings display was interesting. This is a very fun and educational nature center, a great place to educate the kids before heading out for a short hike or drive. I highly recommend the stop.
We stopped here on a Saturday afternoon for the facilities but discovered more than we were anticipating! We were surprised to see so many snakes (and spent a bit of time looking at the rattlesnake and the copperhead to make sure we knew what they looked like) at the facility and learned about different animals excrement too haha!
Nice informative place to stop before visiting Cranberry Glades. We enjoyed seeing the snakes and looking at all the displays.
Stopped in here after walking the boardwalk at Cranberry Glades. Very nice staff and great display. Great live snake display. There was a ranger there letting kids hold different snakes. It was so fun to watch their faces!
Monongahela is beautiful! The rangers gave us good advice on where to hike with a limited amount of time. Hiked to High Rocks which had a stunning view. The Nature Center had a nice selection of souvenirs, etc.
Stopped in after a lengthy hike nearby. Great staff, friendly, clean restrooms, great area gifts/souvenirs. Wonderful display of wildlife in the area. Fresh hot coffee. Great resting point before your next stop in Wild, Wonderful Weedy Virginia!
We just happened to stop in here. Very friendly staff and very educational displays about the wildlife and plants in the area. Also restrooms and souvenirs.
We stopped here on a Tuesday in June 2014 on our way using the "scenic route" through West Virginia to Pennsylvania and discovered they were closed. It looked like such a nice facility and we sorely needed a restroom break. Anyway, be sure to find out what days/times they operate. Operation hours are not posted on website.
This is an amazing place with boardwalks throughout the park. You can take short trails or lenghty trails, lots of options. Been there a dozen times and it never gets old. If you are anywhere within 50 miles of the Glade, make the trip. Even better, stay at the beautiful Watoga State Park and vist the Glade and Beartown.
We loved the educational history we even saw a rattle snake diamond back, a big one! We stopped on our way on our ride through the monongahela National forest on our Motorcycle .
The Nature Center is well done, small, compact and very interesting. Have done the Native Orchid presentation and hike twice in the last few years. This year attended the Snake Show as well and that was interesting and informative. Would recommend this to everyone. Bring lunch however, there really isn't anywhere to eat nearby, although Hillsboro has the Pretty Penny and that is wonderful.
The center is great and educational. The staff were friendly and informative. They really do a great job in WV with their state parks
