So glad your Valentine's weekend at ACE was so great! Can't wait to see you back in the summer! Thanks for taking the time to write a review, we really appreciate it!Thanks again from the entire ACE team!-Heidi
I hate the cold and I can honestly say that this was the most fun and exciting experience I have ever had freezing and shivering! We went on the day that they started releasing water from the Summerville Dam and what a rush! ACE gives a really good safety brief prior to getting in the water. Alisa was our awesome guide and you can tell that she absolutely loves her job. She also made sure we were safe and was very honest about what could happen as far as capsizing or getting thrown out of the raft. The picnic lunch was good and the small heaters were great! The Gauley River with the arrival of the fall colors was absolutlely stunning. Hot showers await you at the end. If you decide to go in October or later and you have some sort of waterproof Gortex, it will keep you much warmer and drier. Or if you are more adventurous, wear a full wetsuit because you will a couple opportunities to swim and there is a cliff jump near the end. Thanks ACE for a great time! We will definitely be back...when it is warmer! :)
We did Whitewater Rafting on the Lower Gauley and what a cool experience it was, I can't wait to go back. Our guide was awesome, the raft was awesome, the bus ride down to the river was exciting to say the least. They served us lunch and the food was super good. Everything was well coordinated and logistically spot on!! This is a must do experience.
Hello Sir!Let me start off by saying that before moving into management I raft guided for 12 years all around the US and world. I was a career guide. And I've seen a lot in my time. I read a lot of reviews about our business, and I must tell you that of all the reviews I've ever read, yours is one of the best. You clearly get it and the guide side of my brain smiled from ear to ear reading this. You are spot on. So thank you. Thank you for getting our craft and for supporting our awesome guides. You also seem to get that ACE can provide a very nice cabin or a very basic cabin. Turn it up or down. So true. Thank you. And we hope to see you back soon.-Heidi
Dear AZ-Thank you for writing this review. I can promise you that we are immediately going to investigate this and remove any unwanted graffiti. I wish we knew what cabin you had stayed in, but I don't think it was one of our deluxe ones. From reviews like yours, we gain a lot from getting to hear the customer perspective on things. Graffiti- is not something we want on any of our property. I hope you had a good time doing activities with us, and next time we hope to impress you with our lodging, not disappoint. We are a family-loving resort. It's the heart and soul of our company. Thanks again,Heidi
We stayed in the small cabins on Shady Lane. They were very clean and cute. Full kitchens and private hot tub on the deck. Satellite tv. However, there was no wifi available at the cabins. Wifi hotspots were only available at the main building. We had to use hour iPhone personal hotspot. It was rather difficult to find, but luckily I was able to locate it using my iPhone map. The town of Minden is not listed on the West Virginia state map. If you can find Oak Hill you are almost there! The all day rafting trip was fantastic! Be prepared for a big thrill if you do the full day lower new River. There were class 3, 4, and 5 Rapids. Be prepared to get soaked!
I did an Upper Gauley day trip with ACE in mid September. I had minimal experience with white water rafting and was nervous. But the staff are exceptional!!!!!!!!!!! They are all very professional and safe and caring. We arrived in the morning and had a brief session describing the day, safety, what to expect, etc. Then we got our wet suits (you can rent wet suits and wet suit jackets and wet suit booties which are a MUST if you are going in September, like I did - such a great idea!). Then we put on our wet suits, got fitted for our life jackets, grabbed our helmets and our paddle and hopped on a bus. It took maybe 30-40 minutes to get to the entrance to the river. The ride was entertaining, giving us the history of the area and lots of tips and info on rafting. We arrived and were broken into groups of 6. Our boat was with Richard as our guide, and he was the best. He was funny and knowledgeable and personable - he made the trip great! He was really conscientious and made sure we understood what we needed to do and when. I felt really relieved to have him as our guide. He really got to know our group and that we were a bit more adventurous, so tailored the experience to our fun. There is even an 18 foot rock cliff that you can choose to jump off of, and our whole boat did it! Cold but awesome! The rapids were AMAZING! So fun and exhilarating. You stop over half way down the river for a grilled lunch and to warm up a bit, then another hour or so. It was a great time, I can't wait to go again!! Thanks ACE and Richard!
Had an amazing time with ACE. Our guide Stew was awesome, took the time to get to know our group and made sure we had a great time. The rafting was world class, the food was delicious and ACE did a great job putting together a well thought out trip. I would recommend this trip to anyone who is a little adventurous and loves the outdoors. You won't be disappointed.
Ace Adventure resort great place to go!!!!!! Staff is friendly and ready to answer and assist you. The Guides are AWESOME!!!!!!! Place for adventure its our 3rd year going love the White Water Rafting. We did the overnight it was great way to relax enjoy peace and quiet and nature, oh and you won't go hungry. You are fed very well !!!!!!!! Ace has their own private take outs and put in's on the river. Worried about safety don't the Guides are always watchful and helpful with good instructions.
Last Fall I reviewed ACE resort based on a trip that involved a rafting trip time snafu. I would like to now give ACE the stellar review it deserves! My family of 4 plus a friend (2 adults and 3 teens) enjoyed a 3 night stay in a clean, large, and well equipped chalet. It had a full kitchen and a hot tub on the deck. (this was amazing after 2 full days on the river in COLD water). We had a blast on day 1 rafting the Lower Gauley with Don. He was informative, funny, and really catered our adventure to our group. Day 2 was full of thrills, excitement, and hard core Upper Gauley rapids. It is not a laid back adventure. Be prepared to work for it! Our guide for that trip was Johnny. Grilled lunch on the river both days was tasty and plentiful. Staff at the resort was engaging, friendly, and enthusiastic. Live music on Saturday night was really good. I observed that the issue I experienced last year with trip times was addressed and measures put in place for it not to happen to anyone else. This is wonderful! Thank you ACE!
Another great trip with Ave Adventure. We (six friends from work) arrived by RV, nice RV parking and facilities. Electrical, water and dump right on site with a bathroom and bath house within twenty yards of the RV. The highlight of the trip is the Gauley River itself but ACE adventure and especially our guide, Stew (Drew), made the river the best it could be. Stew and all the guides were great with all their knowledge and comic relief they provided which made the "first timers" feel like they were in great hands. The guides also served as hosts on the overnight camping, serving steak, chicken, baked potatoes, apps and plenty of beer. The next morning was much of the same. I can't say enough about how the guides made this trip a adventure that we will never forget. On arrival back to our RV site, the bar had a band playing outside and was a great way to end a wonderful weekend.
Our group of experienced whitewater rafters had a blast with Jen in a 12-foot raft. She was spot-on with information, and guided us through an almost non-stop trip filled with wave trains, steep drops, slot canyons and overhanging rocks for a wild, wet and wonderful trip. The spills are avoidable, but our group elected the tricky routes every chance we were given and so...well, we got extra wet and had some extra excitement. The Gauley River banks are beautiful this time of year. The changing facilities were clean and roomy. Plenty of hot water in the showers if, like me, a rafter were to get chilly. SUPER-FUN!
Friends of ours brought us here for a weekend of Upper Gauley rafting & zip lines. ACE staff was friendly and helpful and the rafting guides are the best on the river! Ask for Joe if you want the trip of a lifetime! I was a little scared but he made sure we were all safe and had a great time. He truly takes care of everyone on his boat! We love ya Joe! Promise I won't be such a chicken next time!
Spent a day white water rafting on the lower Gauley. The overall fear of white water rafting in class 5 rapids was clearly addressed by our team guide Puppy (Chris) and what was expected of us, Basically paddle when told and don't paddle when told. Our raft guide Steve A. made the trip very enjoyable by explaining all the rapids as needed and did a superb job guiding us on our way. The mid day lunch break was way more then expected and very enjoyable. Given a chance we'd love to do it again. Maybe even try the upper Gauley or New River next time. Spent a half day zip lineing. Beautiful scenery!!! Having experience climbing and repealing I could zip all day. The staff and guides at Ace truly make the experience totally enjoyable. Will look forward to returning one day.
Never rafted before - what a blast!!! Did the Lower New River. They captured great photography of our fun. The guides were excellent. Don't do the jumping from the rock - dangerous climb.
