We drove from Maryland, outside DC, for a short two night getaway to this inn close to the university, recommended by several people we know. We stayed in one of the chalet suites, with the balcony facing the Potomac River.
Five challenging, fabulous new plays being born every Summer in three different campus theaters, by new and veteran playwrights.
We saw 3 1/2 games the weekend of april 4 - 6. very nice stadium and the Shepherd University did themselves proud winning 3of 4 games. all 4 games were very exciting. Will be back for more in the future.
Shepherd College is consistently ranked as one of the top small universities in the country. I was a student when it was in the Top 10 small colleges, before it tried to grow up and be a university. When school is in session, the town is hopping, and you will fight for parking, restaurant seating, and even standing in check out lines, That being said, the CATF every July is world class theater, and their wellness center, gymnasium is also a
Campus is being updated and modernized. Seems like a nice place to attend. Not sure of the reputation.
If you visit the college or anything else in this town, be careful where you park. The town raises a lot of revenue from $20-50 parking tickets that are slapped on vehicles as soon as a meter expires, or if a car's bumper extends beyond the authorized parking space. There are also speed traps on two sides of town. You cannot drive through Shepherdstown during the day without seeing a cop or a meter maid out looking for someone to ticket.
We love the Contemporary American Theater Festival every July. Best new plays presented in intimate houses with excellent technical productions. We enjoy the small college sports and the Wellness center is first rate. Go there three times a week.
We took a day trip to the town of Shepherdstown and it was a cool, funky place to visit. It was steeped in West Virginia history as the oldest town in WV and there was a significant Civil War connection. The shops and restaraunts were funky with good prices and a wide selection of food. As a college town there was a youthful energy existing with the history of the town. The streets were full of architectural delights and sites. We walked around the campus and were impressed with how it seemed to welcome students.
Looking for a big time education at a small college. Go to Shepherd. They have excellent athletic programs and a second to none Nursing Program. The offer a wide diversity of degrees.
It is the greatest college. We both attended there over 50 years ago and we still love it. What a great place for kids to go to college.
Students seemed to be engaged in the school, and with each other. Intelligent, polite young people walk all over campus.
My son attends and we visit frequently. Very safe campus. Small classes. Near enough to visit DC and Baltimore, MD.
I was doing some historical research and the staff was most helpful.
Apparently Trip Advisor doesn't know this has been Shepherd University for some time now. You can get a quality education there.
My wife and son are Alumni. The school is very academically strong. It is congenial to the community & has been around a long time. It is a nice quite place to send your child for a serious education. The town wraps around it & is self contained.
