Throughout the summer months both locals and visitors alike love spending time at the beautiful Wheeling Waterfront. Once the home of Wheeling's largest parking garage, the City Fathers had the vision of waterfront recreation. The garage was torn down and a beautiful waterfront amphitheater has replaced it. This lovely amphitheater is now the home of "Waterfront Wednesdays", the outdoor Wednesday night concert series. There are festivals galore throughout the summer which take place along the waterfront area including The Italian Festival, Blues Fest, The Vintage Powerboat Regatta, The Sternwheeler Fest, Fireworks including displays from the historic Wheeling Suspension Bridge and much, much more !!! Visitors to Wheeling's Waterfront are guaranteed excitement along the river throughout the summer months. check it out !!
We walked the Heritage Trail on Water Street along the Ohio River on June 29, 2014 and it was very beautiful and dog friendly with doggy bags provided if needed. Met some very nice people, all ages, while there. Kids (12,15 and 17...one a cross country runner) and Luie, our Snow Lab, enjoyed this stop on our way to Deep Creek Lake, Maryland.
This is the 8th year that we've attended the Blues Festival. Great music, good food. Flush toliets. Will keep coming back!
Love the heritage port! they have alot of things that goes on here its a beautiful place right on the river, free concerts, free movies, tons of festivals....beautiful and always clean! beautiful sunses at night.....they have a nice play ground for the kids! even if you are not coming here for a festival, or anything else, its just a good place to come and clear your head!
Lots of industry was once along this River, James Wright (poet) Pulitzer 1972 wrote about this valley. And he was very spot on. They have a very cool little Jazz and Wine Fest here. Also a kind of picnic with the pops symphony evening I believe.
