longleaf vista recreation area

There is a nice shady picnic area on top of a hill that even has (non-potable) water spigots. There are flush toilets. There are some great views from a paved walkway (wheelchair accesible) that goes out the ridge to a CCC era pavilion. If you are feeling more adventurous and you have time, there is a 1.5 mile loop interpretive trail that is just wonderful. Even if you just do part of it and walk back you will feel like you are somehwere far away from civilization and far from central Louisiana!I love stopping by here and seeing the wonderful views. This place looks like nothing you will see in the rest of Louisiana. It is a rugged hilly landscape with park-like open Longleaf Pine habitat. Look closely and you will find interesting creatures like Fence Lizards or salamanders under rocks. The native plants are beautiful, too.According to Google Maps it is 16 minutes from I-49 (at Exit 119). There is no street address for this place, but you can find it easily in Google Maps by entering Longleaf Vista Recreation Area in the search box.
