Really enjoyed our visit, the tour guide (sorry but, I didn't get her name), was just great, very knowledgeable about the plantation. Not only displays the history of the planation, but, about regional history, great intro to the region and makes the past come alive in the rooms. Very well done. I didn't realize that this region had a strong presence of native Americans. Traveled with my wife and son and his fiancée, good for family, not for really small children. Stop by the gift shop, some good finds in there.
I went with my 8year old and we truly enjoyed ourselves! Our tour guide Ed knew everything there was to know about the plantation. He was a joy to hang out with.
Good historical tour of a former sugarcane plantation. My favorite part of the house is the stained glass by the main entrance and my favorite part of the tour is the gift shop! (But they don't take credit cards.)
We found this attraction after they were closed but still enjoyed it. We parked and walked around the outside and enjoyed the warm summer evening. If you cross the pedestrian bridge you'll find a wonderful Veteran's Memorial.
This is not one of the best known plantation homes in the area. The nice thing is that twice a year they have an Arts and Crafts show on the grounds. It is a big draw in the community and brings in lots of vendors from all over the south. The museum itself could use a little sprucing up.
My Wife is into checking out local museums when we travel and this one was really nothing special to see. That was something I never hear my Wife comment on. They need to make this just a little more interesting.
Not a lot to do in Houma, but we were looking to visit a real plantation. This tour focuses more on Houma, which was an interesting bit of history. The tour guide was very engaged and interesting, so worth a look if you're already in town.
We set aside an hour to visit this museum and left after two hours with more to see. We entered in the out buiding which houses the gift shop and was a former living quarters and kitchen on the plantation. We were treated to a personal guided tour of the grounds and the main house. We were told about the race track that was the pride and joy of the owner. We saw pictures of the plantation in full operation when it had 50,000 acres of land in sugar cane. The artifacts in the house are well preserved and displayed. There is a special room for Mardi Gras festivities and a room devoted to memorablitis of a family member who was a US Senator. There is a large collection of porcelains as well of the native birds. All in all, a treasure that has been remarkable perserved and displayed.
I think this museum acquaints visitors with history of Terrebonne Parish. The house is lovely and full of interesting exhibits. The guides are great.
The place is clean, organized and very nice. The staff is friendly, the girl that does the tour has very good knowledge of the history of the place. The exhibition inside is very good, however only one room is original to the house, still you can feel the history in the place
I try to go nearly every show. Its a mother daughters outing. As usual great crafts and good food. Now its becoming mother/daughters/granddaughter.
The curator showed us around and gave us an interesting background to plantation living and life in the Mississippi Delta. As well as the explaining about the cultivation of indigo and sugar there are displays describing many things including Mardi Gras and local Native American communities. Well worth the six dollar entrance fee
The tour shows the history of the area very well. The tour guide was great at explaining the family history that owned the museum. They had a very large collection of bone china, which was donated. The cost was $6.00 per person.
Interesting and historic. Always enjoy arts and crafts fairs twice a year . Docents are very well informed and give interesting tours.
Our guide, Racheal was fantastic and answered every question we could think of and knew the history of the family that lived there as well as their relatives in great detail. We spent two hours at the plantation and thouroughly enjoyed every minute. My wife and sister stated it was the highlight of our trip to the New Orleans area. We were happy we chose this tour instead of the other high priced tours of other plantations. The $6.00 admission charge is a fantastic bargain.
