We spent a lot of time at the Laura Plantation then we went to the Oak Alley Plantation, my personal opinion I would have preferred to spend more time at the Oak Alley grounds and store. The tour guides at the Plantations were great, they gave us a lot of time to ask questions. Gave us a lot of time to wander about by yourself to take pictures. I would recommend the tour and do this again.
We are sorry that you had this misunderstanding with our company. People who work for hotels sometimes provide wrong information which is why we encourage guest to contact the company directly for bookings. if you would look at our prices on our website www.louisianaswamp.com or had a current brochure in the certified rack of the hotel it states our prices. We have been in business for over 25 years and business a very reputable company in the city of New Orleans. Once again sorry for the misunderstanding.
I am starting this review, a full 30 minutes past when we were told to start waiting... Not an auspicious beginning. I called and was told traffic was the issue, traffic here is not bad.... When I booked, they asked for my name and phone number, I tend to agree with a previous post on a lack of common courtesy. I hope the tour is worthwhile, today is the only day that works and we choose this one on the advice of our hotel, rather than go with one we walked past. They did finally arrive, two seats left on the bus and we sat while everyone paid. Other reviews talk about time wasted on transfers etc. and I can see one large time sucker right off. I am interested to see how much 'tour time' is burned up with this company processing their payments. Wouldn't collecting up front add to the efficiency? Anyway the tour starts at 2:10, after the collection finally ends, however the finish is a loose 5, that's when they start dropping folks off.The tour guide was awesome, and was able to think on his feet when a parade suddenly crossed our route. He simply when a different way and made it work. He did seem to speak to himself now and then but who doesn't ;) the tour guide had a clearly expansive knowledge of the area. In all the tour was worthwhile, I am glad we did it but the start was bumpy.
We were so happy with Gary our tour guide for the Lousiana City Tour yesterday. Born and raised in New Orleans; he really knows the area and the areas history. He was funny and eager to answer any questions we had. We didn't need to ask any questions because he seemed to answer any questions we had before we said anything. We travel a lot and go on a lot of tours, Gary was the best!
Took the enclosed boat swamp tour with my children, we all had a lot of fun. The captain gave info all about the swamp, towns in area, a cemetery on the water, and the many hurricanes that have affected south Louisiana. Seen a bunch of alligators too.
We unfortunately can not operate the 3pm-4:15 tour after daylight savings time ends. It is dark by 5:15pm. The guest would only get 1 hour or less of tour. When we get a late tour request for the swamp tour boat or airboat, we will attempt to send an email to advise that the tour was not running and ask the client to move to an earlier time. If this was an internet reservation, it is possible that the client did not get our email, for whatever reason. We did not charge the credit card that was given as part of the booking process. The secretary called about 12/noon to confirm that they did not want to move to the 12:30/2:10pm airboat tour. We do not want to exclude anyone from our tours, we can not make any money if they do not go with us, but do not want the client to complain about a shortened tour because of darkness. Milton Walker
We loved this tour and our guide. We saw all the highlights. My favorite was the cemetery and the Katrina information was outstanding. FYI. Our tour guide told us all street musicians and acts have a permit and have to pass a background check in order to play on the streets in the French Quarter. Nice to know. This was such a good tour.
This is the second time I have been on a swamp tour with the Louisiana Tour Company. The swamp tour is great and I highly recommend taking the air boat. The tour company icks you up and drops you off at your hotel.
First off I have to say our pick-up driver was the best way to wake up in the morning. Brian was ABSOLUTELY hilarious and had the most contagious laugh ever. He was very informative and kept us in stiches the whole ride to the plantation. He was prompt and courteous and just an all around great guy.The Laura Plantation is an amazing piece of history totally recommended (if your looking for scenery go to Oak Alley) but well worth the trip. The Airboat Swamp Tour was one of the highlights of our whole vacation. Captain Ernie was an absolute gem. Pure Cajun and VERY knowledgeable on the subject of the bayou and especially Gators as its his family business. We would have loved to just sit and talk with him for hours about the area and the history. The only suggestion I have is that if you are only doing Laura and Airboat bring food or be prepared to only be able to purchase snacks. Lunch is only really available at Oak Alley.I would do this tour again in a heartbeat!! Love NoLa!
Enjoyed our visit to Oak Alley and the airboat ride. The bus was clean and comfortable for the long ride, and the driver was very friendly and efficient. Oak Alley was beautiful, and we had a great tour guide. The airboat was so much fun! Again, had a wonderful tour guide and enjoyed every minute!
My wife and I, touring from NJ, took the 3 hour city and Katrina tour. We were picked up right in front of our hotel. Gary was our driver, historian, narrator, and overall nice guy. He knew his stuff and was a great orator. There were two stops on the route - St. Louis Cemetery #3 and at Morning Call in City Park, where we found restrooms, coffee, and of course beignets. Gary told us all about the fascinating above ground burial process in the cemetery, and we had a short amount of time to jaunt through the wonderful Besthoff Sculpture Garden adjacent to the parked bus. The mini bus was very comfortable and the audio system was good. The last part of the tour focused on Katrina and the 9th district. Gary took us through the event as we rolled through and pointed out the good work Brad Pitt's "Make it right" foundation was doing in new construction. Only down side of the tour is picture taking; you saw it, you heard it, but you did not capture it. We were able to get some shots through the window if the action was on our side. We wish there could have been one or two more quick stops to accommodate picture taking. However, when asked, Gary did open the door for me to take a picture of the levee. Good enjoyable tour, well worth the cost.
Booked this trip on line a few weeks before we left for New Orleans - got a discount for booking on line. Had the booking times and we picked 10:30 AM. I assumed this was the time that we boarded the boat. Got a call from them stating that the shuttle would pick us up at our hotel at 10:15. At 10:30 I called and asked where the shuttle was. They said it would be there by 10:40. It arrived and we had to stop at a few more hotels for pick up. The driver then advised that it was a 40 minute ride to the airboat. Arrived at the dock at around 11:30. Got on the boat about 12:00 PM. We chose the 6 person airboat and was glad that it was a smaller boat - a little more money but worth it with a smaller group. Once we boarded the boat and took off - this tour was awesome. Our driver Justin was very informative and took us to great spots to see the gators and wild life. Highly recommend this tour. We arrived back at our hotel at approximately 3:15 PM. My suggestion would be to book the earliest time available - we were not expecting this tour to take up most of the day but again - well worth it!
We arranged this tour through our hotel. Easy enough, the shuttle picked us up and we were on our way to the swamp. My only complaint with this review has to do with the shuttle The bus was on the fritz, it would slowly lose power until the driver pulled over and shut it off and started it again. She had to keep doing this over and over and it became more frequent. My complaint isn't that this happened, things like this come up sometimes, I get that. My complaint is the driver said nothing to us. No communication, no apology, no nothing. A little communication goes a long way, just saying. Anyway....once we got to the swamp things were much better. We didn't go in an air boat, just the classic Swamp Lady. Reggie was our captain and he was great! We was funny and informative. You could tell he knows his stuff when it comes to the swamp. He took us on a great ride on the water, telling us all about what it's like to live there, the history of the towns on the swamp, and of course fun alligator facts. We saw lots of gators, a variety of sizes, a lot of birds and other wild life. The gators were so much fun to watch while they ate marshmallows. Reggie was right there with them, inches from their snapping mouths. I won't be signing up to take his job, that's for sure. My favorite part of the trip was meeting and holding Elvis, Reggie's pet baby gator. He just hung out while he was passed around the entire boat. The tour was a lot of fun and I'm so glad I did it. It's something you certainly can't see just anywhere. And the ride back to NOLA was much better!
Beautiful weather and a great tour. Ernie was the skipper and he knew so much about the alligators and other swamp animals. Got some wonderful photos and great memories. Well worth the money!!
We only had time for an over night stay in New Orleans. So we decided the best way to see as much as possible was to do a tour. We took the 3 hour City tour. Greg our driver was born and raised in New Orleans and lived through Katrina. He was great, his knowledge was lived and not learned and practiced. After going on this tour we saw several places that we want to visit so we are planning a return trip. Even if you have several days it is worth starting will the City tour so you can decide what you really want to see and do!
