I went to the museum along with my Red Hat group and it was extremely informative and interesting. The exhibits are staged very well from the front door to the back carrying you along the stream of Webster Parish history. I have always loved history and they made it quite pleasant to go through it. I understand that the same people who designed this museum are doing the new museum at the Germantown Colony. Opens in November and I am looking forward to it.
This museum seemed to cover every little bit of history in this small town. It went through a terrible year in 1933 with a fire, a tornado, a flood, and other various trials and tribulations. They dubbed it the Year of Disasters. It was quite an interesting view of the town. And no charge!
For starters, the museum has free admission. A staff member met us at the door and offeredto give us a tour. As a reenact or and history buff I have been to a lot of museums and seen a lot of unique antiques, but this little place surprised me with all the interesting displays and local heritage. Though small, I would go back.
The Dorcheat Historical Association Museum is a must see! We walked in and were greeted by a very kind and lovely lady, Schelley Brown Francis who was amazingly helpful. The museum, all be it small, is extremely well layed out and full of huge amounts of history. We were quite impressed with the displays. If you are ever driving thru Minden, LA...you should stop in and say hello
The museum has many well planned displays and great collections of local items, documents, and memorabilia. Videos throughout display original films of local peop[e, views of the old homes, etc. You are offered a guided tour and/or freedom to browse on your own. A very interactive way to spend an hour or two . . . . and admission is FREE!
Great small town museum.. Tells the history of the area in a wonderful way! You will love the way the museum is laid out. Learn about famous people that have lived in the area. Lots of fun for all ages of visitors
This a well kept secret. A great small museum that shows the history of Minden and the surronding area. You won't be dissapointed if you go and tour it.
