The Baton Rouge area has a surprising number of parks available and the Cane's Dog Park is one of the better attractions.Well maintained with large expanses of area for big or small dogs to run.Good place to visit if you're a dog!
This is the dog park I prefer to take my husky to. I like it much better than the one on Burbank. It's well taken care of, benches to sit on, pools for the dogs and just the right size. The only thing is it's a little dusty from lack of grass in some areas. Better for large dogs, the little dogs usually have attitudes/start fights and should be taken to parks with designated "small dog" areas. My pup and I love it!
By all means, give your pup a chance to run. But, be prepared for lots of dust, dander and dirt. Well fenced, gated and safe but for the occasional alpha dog w/an oblivious owner.Best for large dogs that can take the heat. Not much if any shade. Good hose tho!
Even though it is small, this is a very nice little dog park where there is shade and seating for the humans. There are plastic wading pools for the dogs, baggies for doggie waste, etc.
Great dog park. Well kept and even has a separate area for small dogs. Very secure entrance and exist to ensure dogs do not escape.
Very nice and well maintained ground. I come here as often as possible to walk my St. Bernard. He's friendly but to some, intimidating. After a little bit of talking, we've made a fan of the breed. Always a nice crowd.
Baton Rouge actually has FIVE (5) dog parks--4 of them are sponsored by Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers restaurants and one sponsored by the Baton Rouge Dept for Parks and Recreation (BREC). (The other 4 parks are listed on the BREC webpage.)City park/dog park is a jewel: located within the city's Garden District, on the fringe of the lakes at LSU--the park has dedicated parking and a play area on the hill for children plus a fenced area for canine companions making it possible for families with kids to picnic and play without excluding their family dog(s). Locals say it used to be called 'Hill Park' or just 'The Hill'.The City provides fresh water drinking fountains for humans and canines and plenty of poop pick up bags for dog-waste disposal. Habitues contribute tennis balls and toys, so even if you forget -- the park is well supplied. Rules are clearly posted and the grounds are periodically patrolled by BREC staff and law enforcement. The only 'drawback' might be that the dog park has poor drainage and the grounds can get very muddy and soft after it rains. Otherwise, there are benches for humans to share with dogs in the shade when it's hot or in the sun when it's chilly. The 'regulars' are very friendly and their dogs well socialized. If you are from out of town or new to off-leash dog parks, the people in the park with their dog(s) are happy to assist and explain and even help with dog training or socializing issues. One caution: I have seen quite a few people (after the XMAS holidays) with their new puppies come to the park: it is NOT recommended to bring puppies younger than 3 months EVER (they really are like newborn human infants--don't take the chance of making your dog sick). It's also VERY important that dogs be current on their shots.
