It's been quiet some time, but I have to say during the cool months it is a perfect place to visit. Cal is amazing in the work he does and if you schedule a visit when they have a workshop you can blow your own glass. Some if Cal's work is sold in cities like New York etc. There is also a shop in Fort Payne "Kathrine's" that sells the glasswork.

It is very interesting to watch these talented people make various hand-blown glass items, anything from a small ornament or drink stirrer to huge wall hangings. They also have a small shop located on site, and you will see some incredibly gorgeous pieces for sale. It is not inexpensive; but if you've watched the work that goes into creating the various items, you can appreciate the expense, and there are things which are affordable. Orbix creations have been featured in many national magazines and in art galleries around the country. Not only is Cal Breed, the studio/gallery owner passionate about all of the creations; but his employees are as well - everyone is very friendly and helpful. They are located about as far off the beaten path as you can get, and it is quite a surprise to find a gallery which has nationally known decorative hand-blown glass basically "in the boondocks"! But it is a beautiful drive getting there; so if you are in the NE Alabama area near the Little River Canyon National Preserve or Fort Payne, I definitely recommend a visit to Orbix. You won't be disappointed! And I'll bet you won't be able to leave there without at least a small purchase!

My husband and I visited this week and had a great time even driving to the Orbix location. Then when we arrived Cal and the other guys were in the process of blowing a water bowl. We were able to stand outside with them and watch them as they work. Such a cool experience! They have a great little gallery inside too and we couldn't leave without a couple small pieces from our visit. Very cool! They even to blow your own ornaments!

If you get a chance to drive to Orbix Hot Glass from Route 273, up the hill to the facility, you will understand why it is located at a special place. The trip up the hill from route 273, near Canyon Mouth Park, to Orbix is not only breathtaking, but adventurous and fun. From the low country to atop Lookout Mountain, it is a wonderful drive. And, the prize is arriving at the bucolic site of Orbix Hot Glass! The shop is not the largest, but it certainly has some of the finest glass blown items around! The small, but wonderful showroom is the perfect size to display some of the finest hand-blown glass products in several states; and at the perfect location! You will not be disappointed! On glass blowing days you may also be invited to see the artisans in action, which is always a treat. We take our guests there whenever they come to visit us in NE Alabama, and they cannot believe the beauty and charm of our part of Alabama!

My daughter and her youth group went here and made a christmas ormament. It looked like a very high quality elegant piece that we might have bought in a high end gift shop. I would recommend this for anyone that wants a different event activity.

Located atop Lookout Mountain in Cherokee County. Orbix Hot Glass was an AWESOME experience. I took 9 family members up on a Saturday afternoon to blow our own Christmas ornaments. It was a wonderful family holiday outing. We were all amazed watching Cal work and thrilled to participate in making our own beautiful Christmas Ornament.

My friends and I went to Orbix Hot Glass to celebrate my birthday. Cal, Eric and Jerry were fantastic. Very patient as we made our ornaments and asked questions. Helpful and just down right friendly. If you love glass work, don't miss this studio. Well worth the drive....just use their directions!

I had seen glass blowing before but never experienced blowing our own Christmas ornaments. The workers were very helpful and friendly. We received our ornaments the day we got home since they had to sit overnight in perfect condition. It was amazing.

A group of nine of us enjoyed the unique experience of blowing our own Christmas ornaments. Each of us got to custom select the colors used in the firing process. The friendly and attentive staff kept us safe and made sure that we didn't burn the place down. Orbix Hot Glass is located near Little River Canyon, "the Grand Canyon of the South," just south of Fort Payne, AL. In addition to providing glass blowing classes, they have a wonderful showroom filled with beautiful, one of a kind, pieces of glass art.

I am a local here in Fort Payne, and I love Orbix Hot Glass! I always have a great time and am amazed by the beautiful pieces of artwork in their gallery. If you happen to visit on a cooler day when they are blowing glass, they will welcome you to hang out on the porch to watch! If you keep up with their schedule you can also participate in classes to blow your own glass ornament, paperweight or bowl! If you have a group of 10 or more, you can even schedule your own private class.Cal Breed is an amazing artist and it is always such a treat to speak with him about his inspiration and how the entire process of glass blowing works. I haven't tried all of the classes, but my boyfriend and I have made 3 ornaments! This class is only $35, you get to pick the colors of glass you want to use, and you actually blow air into the ornament as Cal shapes it. This is such a fun and unique experience, and it is something that you definitely shouldn't miss out on. Great for going by yourself, as a couple or with friends and family!
