This is a beautiful scenic area in NE Alabama. If you are in the area then it is a must see. The waterfalls are lovely and the area the day we were there was covered in snow. The lookouts are amazing too.
I live in this area and during the fall, you could not find a more colorful place. I enjoy going to the Little River Falls after a big rain storm and if you can catch it when there is a big rain and then the temps drop belowing freezing for several days, the 50-60 ft long icicles are beautiful. The ride around the gorge of the river is beautiful no matter what time of the year it is.
This area is amazing. Family friendly hikes for those with kids. But also there are more strenuous hikes with great views too. Also, for those not inclined to much time outdoorsy stuff, you can drive the 10 mile-ish road to many wonderful lookouts!
This is a breath taking place that I visit every time I am in town. The views are amazing so set aside a few hours to take it all in.
I wish I could have gone in the fall color but perhaps another trip. Even in May, this is a beautiful part of the state. Great place for photography.
What amazing sits at little river canyon the waterfalls, the walkways and unbelievable hiking trails. These sights are so amazing and not really well known outside of Fort Payne, AL
The visitor center is a wonderful facility with a fantastic staff that starts the trip off on a wonderful note. Scenic rim drive provides a great overview of the park and demonstrates the drop off of the river through the canyon. Most of the overlooks are clearly marked and have adequate parking. The trailheads don't seem as well marked and most just have a few spots for cars to pull off the road but you really either need to know where you're going or you'll miss them. The trails themselves seem very well kept and easy to navigate though. The guide does an excellent job of labelling them as well for difficulty levels.
If you love nature - you'll live this and the othet sights in and around Dekalb County and Fort Payne AL
the museem rocks ultra modern the falls feels like the carved out of the woods its not like most parks nice little short they changed the elvation used real logs the view need to the crisp ness of autumn to be expected please camera the views are always changin as the wind blows
The falls are beautiful and make lovely pictures. We went the last week of october. Leaves were spectacular. Visit the information center as well. Will do more exploring here next visit. We rv camped at nearby desoto which is my favorite alabama state park. Good place to eat too! This is a wonderful area and we will definiately return.
Been here as a youngster 30 years ago and was kind of wild drinking swim hole. WOW it's transformed into a family friendly ecological marvel. Really enjoyed it brought kids back eat lunch there and can see camping next year. Great security and very clean. Way to go ALABAMA for an un disturbed renovation that is now a family attraction!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Little River Canyon. I do recommend that you visit the Little River Canyon Center first, which is a little piece up or down the road from the Canyon entry. They have a movie that helps understand the canyon better. When you drive in, the falls aren't visible, but you park and walk on a walkway to get there. Actually, there are 2 walkways , the best one to take is the first handicap ramp, but both end up in the same place, just the 2nd walkway has lots of stairs. The fall is probably pretty, depending on the time of year. We were there in October, and it was very dry, so the fall was disappointing. It was small. They say (from the film) that you can go down BEHIND the waterfall. That would be fun to do in warmer weather. It's set up for swimming, I believe, but of course no one was swimming at the time we were there.Back in the car, we went to the other overlooks. (You drive and then park to view them.) Canyon View Overlook was wonderful. For Wolf Creek Overlook, slow down, it's hard to park. Grace's High Falls was dry when we were there (not enough water for the falls). Also, Mushroom Rock is in the middle of the road, and it's cool.We were going to Mentone, so we just kept on going until 176 went into 89, where we turned right. We were out of the Preserve by then. It was an enjoyable time. Then you get back in the car and can follow a map that you get at the Center. It directs you to each stop along the way where you can get out and
Leaves were at their peak! The waterfall was wonderful! The National Park service welcome center was very nice.
Plenty of pull-off for viewing and taking pictures. We apparently missed the beautiful fall foliage this year. We arrived the first weekend in November and there was very little color. Definitely worth the time to see the canyon.
Take the time to enjoy the beauty that our God has given us, . Very peaceful scenic drive with pretty views.
