guntersville state park

A drive through Guntersville State Park recently was very enjoyable. We enjoyed the view of the Tennessee River from several points and saw at least five deer. We stopped to take photos of the deer and a few of them posed for the camera. The park is such a wonderful place to enjoy nature any time of the year.

This state park was so pretty. We went in the evening and saw a ton of deer. Then we watched the sunset from the overlook by the golf course. Had a great view of the lake! We will definately be back!

Went to Guntersville for the Bob Baumhower Shrimp Festival (and to celebrate my friend's 50th birthday) which we had been looking forward to for months. Unfortunately, after driving about an hour and waiting in a long line of cars for 40 minutes, we were told the event was sold out (after the first hour) and the supplies were not going to be replenished, even though it was supposed to run from 4 pm - 10 pm

Awesome place..... Went to this place for the long weekend. We were there only for only few hours... People can enrol for the Camping at the State park office in advance.Though we didn't camp, we paid $3(for one car - all day long) at a place(Aubrey Carr Scenic Drive) adjacent to the State park campground( where we enjoyed couple of hours swimming. The place was resembling a beach rather than a lake. Sands were not soft like in the beach. There were small stones once we enter the water which can sometimes hurt the children's legs but it is not a big concern.Overall it was a very good experience. Best for people who would like to camp. People can camp at the campground or also at different places on the way (But registration is required).

We stayed in one of the two bed, two bath cottages, which was right on the lake. It was $135, and worth every penny (we got senior discount of 10% off, which helped). It was air-conditioned, the bedrooms were roomy and comfortable, with a full bath in each, and the kitchenette was good-sized, with everything one would need for cooking, although I was told to bring coffee filters and paper towels. We forgot salt and pepper, but no biggee. It sat right near the lake and it was wonderful to watch the wildlife go by and go down to the edge at night with a flashlight and look at all the fish and crawfish the grandsons tried to catch. We also visited Cathedral Caverns, which were lovely. There are lots of trails to hike on plus boating and fishing, though we didn't do the latter. There is free wi-fi even in the cabins, though the third morning we were there, the internet was down, even in the lodge on their guest computer. All in all, this was a great, lovely, beautiful place to spend a few days to relax and unwind.

Very nice, very fine place. Lake is amazing, nice . Great place to relax, take in the sights, fishing has to be good. I can see why people flock to this place, we saw it on the way, spent a few hours, wish we could have spent more

This a review for the cabins and the lodge. Two stars are for the timely service of the staff, otherwise this trip would have been a disaster. When we checked in at the lodge the staff was very friendly. We got the room keys and went to the cabin where the downhill slide of this trip started. The cabin is small... very small, which wasn't a problem. The decor is seriously outdated (1970's, not rustic!!). The carpet had seen better days and there were several black stains on it, despite the staff cleaning the room just before we came. Thin sheets on the bed. Not to mention the bathrooms (which had no doors) were tiny and very utilitarian. You could take two steps from the bed and find yourself in the bathroom! The kitchen had seen better days, the fridge looked as though it was an afterthought. The cabin smelled like smoke, so I guess the cleaners left the doors open which is where all the flies and gnats came in. Not one or two, a small horde of them. After killing about five flies and countless gnats and still having more to go, I called the lodge and they exchanged the room for one at the lodge.The lodge was the exact opposite of the cabins. A nicely appointed queen bed with pullout parking lot view was the only room they said they had available. Furnishings are very nice and updated. DVD player, fridge and microwave in the room. Small terrace to sit out on. To put in melodramatically, it was like coming to paradise after being you know where. We walked to the terraces to see the stunning view. The restaurant was ok, not a wow factor, but you'll get your money worth. I wish they would update the cabins to the level of the lodge. Even if it means doing one or two at a time. Right now, it's a place were men intention on fishing, hike, etc. and don't care where they are at would stay. The cabins are not a place I would take my family to stay. If these were updated to take advantage on being right on the lake and having a great place to stay, I would be back. The potential is there, if someone would take the time and money to do it.

This State Park was very large and had a lot to offer. Several years ago they had a tornado so lower level is being renovated with new trees. The lake is very very large and beautiful and plenty of places to dock your boat. From what I was told they have fishing tournaments here as well. Above the campground area they have a very nice lodge with pool, restaurant, chalets and an 18 hole golf course. Bottom level also has cabins that you can rent. Played golf and the course was in good shape. Of course any campground that offers full hookup is a big plus for me and most of the sites had it all. If this park was not so far I would go back.

The views were spectacular. The deer are tame and come out in the evening for close up photo opportunities. The golf course looks like fun and the lodge is right on top of the mountain. The cabins are perfect for fishermen and the camp ground looks great.

We always meet our friends in Guntersville for the day. We always eat lunch and then head to the state park. We usually have dessert in the dining room and then go the bar area. It is rarely open but the view is spectacular. The back wall is all glass, the fireplace is usually lit and we sit and just enjoy the the views. We have stayed in the lodge and also the chalets. If you are in the area, take the time to visit.

Since the devastating tornado's in 2011 that took it's toll on this state park, their grand re-opening we camped just behind the opening. The wildlife we saw was unreal. We had deer coming up to our camp as if they were camping out with us. The general store was a big help where we bought many things as they had many things to offer-this is always good to know and handy as you always forget that one thing! The tree's surrounding the park are sparse because of the hit from the tornado yet there are shaded areas you must ask and well plan until the foliage grows again.

Our family and many friends have gone to the restaurant at the lodge many times. The staff and food preparers have always been accommodating. We've had very good meals here. The food buffet has always offered our family several choices that were pleasing to the palate. If you go out onto the rear deck overlooking Lake Guntersville there is a wonderful eye appealing view of the lake. Our family has visited several of the local state parks and there restaurants without being disappointed. We will visit again to enjoy the great food and service.

Drove through the park and up to the Lodge. View from the Lodge was absolutely incredible. Would definitely go back and would like to stay in a lake view cottage. Camping and swim areas looked really nice.
