houston historic jail

It was dark since we went after dinner - but we pointed our brights at the jailhouse and thoroughly enjoyed walking into a historical monument. =) I am a history buff.... so this was an exciting find. =)

We were in the area so we decided to stop and see the Houston Historic Jail. It is just a small building with a plaque out front and some busts of historic people. The grounds were clean and well kept and the inside of the building was interesting. If you are in the area by all means stop by and take a look. I would not go out of my way to see this though.

Being new to Northern Alabama, we wanted to play tourist. This site did not disappoint. We found this a pleasurable piece of history that was off the beaten path. Hard to believe but some natives of Northern Alabama did not this existed. We plan a visit again around a motorcycle ride with friends.

Interesting and worth a stop to have a walk inside this bit of American history. Leaflets are in a holder outside together with a voluntary contribution box. There is also a guest book inside you can sign. A historical information sign and two memorial statutes make for some interesting reading.
