We have a cabin on the lake and love to ride our pontoon boat to some secluded spot and swim in the fresh, clear water. You can see your toes!
You will enjoy the beautiful lake if you like the water. I grew up on this lake and had wonderful times water skiing and now my grands have a wonderful time with the enjoyment of the beautiful lake. Camping sites are available and beautiful homes are a enjoyment to ride the lake and view. The lake covers 3 county's in Alabama. Walker, Cullman and Winston. If you love fishing some of the best fishing in the south. Hope you get to come and relax and take in the beautiful scenery.
Beautiful and well kept lake. The houses are beautiful. Perfect for tubing and swimming. Wish we could have stayed longer and seen fireworks
We found this lake about one year ago and loved it so much that my family actually purchased a property here. The water is beautiful and clean. It's so peaceful. There's no better place for us!
Beautiful wood and cliff surrounded lake about 45 minutes north of Birmingham. Lots of coves and miles of beautiful water to cruise on jet skis or boat.
Been coming to the area for 40 years. Best water anywhere. Floating off the dock in the summer is most relaxing.
I go to Lewis Smith Lake, twice a year. We rent a cabin and go on guided trips with Mike Walker of Fishing 24-7 Guide Service. We love striped bass fishing and have had some great trips. Our biggest fish was a thirty two pound monster we caught last June. Other then stripe fishing, we go below the dam and fish for trout if we have time. Only down side about the area is lack of good restaurants and evening entertainment
This lake is HUGE, with lots of opportunities for fun! We rented a house on Homeaway.com (There are lots of properties available for rent - in Jasper, in Arley, etc.) and loaded in for a week of relaxation. Our lake house had a covered boat launch that served as our home base for swimming and riding the jet ski we brought with us. (There are also places along the lake where you can rent boats and other watercraft.) The water was beautiful, and even in late June, the part of the lake we were on wasn't crowded. While vacationing at parts of Smith Lake, you're also a convenient driving distance to Huntsville and/or Birmingham for day trips. This place is PERFECT for a family vacation. We had a big group -11 people - and we all loved it.
We were sponatenous and jumped off rocks!! It was a blast! We were a bit disappointed that the dam didn't have water flowing on it, but I guess it goes under. It was still fun and beautiful
This in my opinion is the most beautiful lake in the state of Alabama. Miles, and miles of shoreline on this winding meandering lake. Great spotted bass fishing available. We rented a cabin for a week and enjoyed it immensely. Great place for long pontoon boat rides checking out the beautiful shoreline and abundant wildlife.
Very large lake with several mile of shoreline. There many areas to launch your boat and several recreation areas. The best are around the dam and in Arley, Al. Early season fishing is good when the bass are spawning. Stripers are the main game fish with largemouth and catfish coming next. Parts of the lake are popular with pleasure boaters so one can often see plenty of this activity going on. It has also become popular with some celebrities and many fine homes dot the shores. Alabama has many fun and good fishing lakes but this one is at the top.
A great place to take the boat and fish all day, stopping only to take dip in the cool clear water.Camp sites for electric or primitive camping.Play areas for children.
If you like clear, unpolluted water, this is the place for you! Most of the water comes from the Bankhead National Forest so there is no manufacturing to pollute. It was dammed by Alabama Power and fluctuates some in the summer but most of the lots have water year round. The lake is very deep and stays cool most of the summer.
Smith Lake Public park has a small beach, grassy areas, restrooms, a campground, playgrounds, and a huge pool with lifeguards you can swim in for a fee. The lake itself is enormous with steep, rocky sides and is surrounded by hundreds of acres of forest. You would have to own property on the lake or know someone or rent a cabin to gain access. Or, if you own a boat, you can go out on the lake using one of the public boat ramps. But research locations thoroughly ---it takes hours to drive around the lake because of the countless inlets, peninsulas, curves and hills. Because of this, it's easy to get lost driving around the lake if you are unfamiliar with the area. It is extremely rural and several miles away from main roads and the expressway, Interstate 65.
Smith Lake is always a fun place to visit. The Dam area is very family friendly and lots of room to have a good time on the water.
