We drove nearly 2 1/2 hours (day trip with friends) to visit the Mobile Greyhound Racing Track. I visited the web site the evening before to learn a little more about racing/betting etc. There was no mention on their web site that they were having technical issues. Upon our arrival we learned that the races (scheduled to start at 1:30 PM) were postponed until 2:30 PM. The guard also told us that they had to cancel the previous evenings races as a result of the technical issues with the mechanical "rabbit" that circles the track. We proceeded to the Clubhouse to have lunch and wait for the races. As we are dining we are watching the progress of the repair on the track (which was moving very slowly). We were told that if the problem was not fixed by 2:00 PM the races would be cancelled. We saw some progress as there were two test runs of the mechanism, yet at 2:30 we were informed they were postponed until 3:00 PM (not cancelled). At 3:00 PM we were informed they were postponed again (no time given). At this point we left disappointed. As a side note - the programs (which can be purchased for $2.00 or downloaded from the internet in advance) have a statement on the front that if you are travelling distances it is best to call ahead to make sure the races are running. Sadly, you have to drive there to purchase the program to get this recommendation, because it is not on their website. Nor had they posted any information that the previous night's races had been cancelled and there was potential for racing to be cancelled the next day.As for the food - I ordered a club sandwich which was made with extra thick bread making it nearly impossible to eat (I actually removed one of the pieces of bread in order to eat it). The ham and turkey were no different than the packaged meat you find at any grocery store (not deli style). It was accompanied by an order of fries for $9.95. Others at the table had varied items. Everyone seemed to be pleased with their meal. I regretted not ordering a cooked product (burger or grilled chicken) over the cold cut sandwich. We ordered a sampling of desserts - strawberry cheesecake, brownie with ice cream and hot fudge, and bread pudding. I sampled the bread pudding, which was not to my particular taste, but it wasn't bad (large serving). The cheesecake was standard issue restaurant cheesecake with strawberry topping (not fresh berries). The brownie and ice cream was a large serving and tasty.
