We took the 4 mile kayak trip. The rapids on this stretch are rated class I and II. So, it was ideal for novice kayakers such as ourselves. We lucked up and had great weather (July 4, 2014). The staff at Tallapoosa Wilds provided great customer service and care about you having fun and coming back. We plan to visit again.
My two teens and I decided to give tubing a try on a Friday. We called to make reservations which was easy, and the owner was more than willing to answer questions for us. We had a choice of 2 types of tube, one a more commercial canvas variety, the other a heavy duty plastic with backrest. We went for the ones with the backrest--SO glad we did! This is a 2 mile journey down a SLOW moving river. The water is mostly quite shallow as well, although in a few narrower portions of the journey it did get over our heads deep. We did stop to eat lunch and some gazing at interesting rocks on the river bed, but with a LOT of paddling and pulling tubes by swimming, the total trip time was 3.5 hours. This definitely wasn't a thrill seeker type of experience, but it was really nice.We saw NO ONE else once we were on the river. The water was clear and cool. I think the teens would have liked a bit more excitement, but it was fun. Already planning to go again on a couples trip. There are showers and changing rooms available for after you're done, but be aware that facilities are backwoods campground basic. Take a cooler--your cooler tube is free and there are a few nice places to stop to eat. Take your sunscreen and reapply at least once or you are likely to get crispy! Also found sunglassess, water shoes, and hats to be necessary. PFDs were provided by the company.
