Clean, small, scenic State Park with ample opportunity to explore the outdoors and go hiking, or go exploring with their guided tour of the cave. RV camping available, grills for cooking out and picnic tables. Swimming pool the kids can enjoy.

It's hard to give this only 1 star because the caves are beautiful! We really enjoyed seeing the cave and staying at the campground. Our tour guide, however, was horrible. It was a teenage boy who very obviously would have rather been up in the gift shop chatting/ flirting with the teenage girl there. He knew absolutely nothing about the caves other than his required speech. Granted, I enjoy geology, but he could not even answer basic questions about the geology of the caves (Like what is the water source for the spring water in the cave). There were 6 of us on the tour who wanted to take our time and look at everything. He would say what he needed to and then walked ahead of all of us to the next spot. We decided to take our time anyway but it was frustrating nonetheless. I really hope they read this and get better tour guides because the caves are too beautiful for that kind of lackadaisical attitude from a tour guide.

We found this spot on TripAdvisor and took a chance. We are sure glad we did! Great cave experience lots to see and our tour guide was Amazing! He is not even normally a guide, but he was the best. He was joking with all of us and giving us plenty of time and went the extra "mile" for us. Be prepared to walk though. Would absolutely recommend it to everyone.

We camped here and the campground was nice and quiet. The park is very well kept, and the rangers were kind and helpful. If you are camping, the cave tour ticket is discounted. The caverns are very neat. They call it the Miracle Mile. The guide was young, but he did a good job. I would have liked to hear more geological information. Great place to spend some time, and it's just north of Birmingham.

We stoppped here for a pit stop on our trip to Oklahoma. The caverns were closed but we still enjoyed the scenery and play ground!

I've been wanting to go to the caverns since I moved to Birmingham three years ago. We finally got a chance to go today and I am very disappointed!! It costs $15.00 a person to go in the cavern. The price wasn't the problem, it was our guide! There were only 5 of us in the group and she rushed us through it!! For 15 bucks I wanted to take pictures and enjoy this beautiful cavern, and the guide had the nerve to tell us we need to move faster "or we wont get to see everything and that there were only two guides that day". I'm sorry, but that's NOT MY PROBLEM that your understaffed (and it wasn't like they were busy!). Once the tour was done, she sat on a bench outside and hung out with the other tour guide!!!! The cavern was beautiful (the parts that I could stop and look at, when I wasn't being rushed, but they really need to let people take there time while in the cavern!

Even though it was February and the caverns were closed, we stopped here for a quiet little picnic while traveling south on I-65. It's about 8 miles off the interstate and sure beat another fast food lunch. The restrooms were open at the park office, and were clean. Picnic areas and grills are scattered throughout. Nice playground for the kids. Would be a great way for a young family to get out of the house (or the car, for that matter) on these warm afternoons and have a little picnic and stretch their legs. Well, we aren't exactly young anymore but it was a great place for us to stretch a bit as well!

very neat area and the caverns were impressive, saw several bats! it does have many steps and is not for anyone with health issues, steep climb at the end.

I enjoyed my visit to the caverns. The guide was good, gave people time to look around, and made sure to point out different aspects of the cave.

Pay to get into the park then $15 ahead to be rushed through by the sarcastic teenager that acted like he really didnt want to be there ,annoyed and will never stop on there again

judyeb_12

pay to get in and park then pay for the caves. I was so annoyed at the riligious trickery at the end of the tour, but if your into that kind of thing you probably will be ok with the tour

The workers are VERY friendly. And their is much to do here. wildlife everywhere!! The caverns were by far my faviorite. Not only was the cave breathtakingly beautifull. But the tour guide really knew his stuff. In fact I ended up giving him a generous tip he did such a great job. My kids enjoyed it most of all. The staff at the park are actually very people friendly compared to alot of other places. Besides the cave the park also offers gemstone mining, hiking trails. The seasonal swiming pool. Camping and picknicking. I had a blast and my kids enjoyed it even more then I did. I recomened this to anyone who enjoys nature.

I live in Birmingham & often visit the caverns with my 7-8 year old boys. There are so many beautiful spots at Rickwood that brings us back to it! The caverns are unique. During the tour, when the guide momentarily switches out the lights, it is pitch dark & there is absolute silence (unheard of above ground). The hike behind the caves is spectacular .... the stone formations & the beautiful flora is very unique to this part of Alabama.Once we also camped overnight with tents. Vast camping area & very clean area to pitch our tents. Very convenient camp grounds with plenty of private space.Loved the big playground for the kids & the gift shop, lots to learn about geology!!Great place to visit with cub scouts & schools!
