I've used our local library for around 25 years. If they don't have a book you can request they purchase it. They have DVDs for check out as well. Before you spend money on a book see if they have it! They also have some things online now. It's a place worth checking out! Pun intended:)
Nice place to find books. It is nice just to pull up a chair and read. Large Library. Free parking. Great location.
Really enjoy the Heritage Room, and staff is helpful finding any information you need. Large stock of DVDs as well for regular entertainment.
This library as a great selection of everything. But, in a special little area tot he side is the Friends of the Library store kinda. It has people donated items for real good prices. Old magazines you been looking all over for, books you can't find, video games that are used an might be a few game systems back but still working condition, music cd's, books on audio, and other items might be found here at any given time. The place has continuous donations that are always new or used. The prices can't be beat either. So, next time your looking for that hard to find library item or even periodical try there. Hope this helps.
I like how large this library is because my little ones can forget to whisper and I haven't ruined the entire library's experience. The kids' section is so big too, and there are lots of movies on top of the book selection. Kids can play on computers too. You can hold books online and get an email when they are ready to pickup.
Good selection of anything you'd expect from a typical library. Staff is (usually) friendly. Conveniently, they give you the option to return items to any affiliated library.
A nice library, but if you are not a resident of Alabama, then you must pay to use this library. It doesn't matter is you are an Alabama taxpayer and they take 5% of your salary already in taxes, you do not qualify for a library card. As a large portion, perhaps over 30% of Lincoln County residents commute, work, pay taxes here, this appears to be very short sighted.
Our library satisfies most requirements. We have a children's area, computers available for use on every floor, snack lounge, conference rooms, etc. But one area we are lacking is in foreign language learning books. I was looking for some Korean language books and the only ones I saw were from the 1920s, 1940s, and 1950s. And there were only 5 of them! There is an abundance of French and Spanish learning aids, but not many others.
The staff, the selection of books and audio-visual material, the computer facilities, and the location are excellent. The genealogical collection on the third floor is superb. Everyone should be aware that the full capability of Ancestry.com is available to library card holders.
I love how they have the children's books down low and in bins where the kids can look through them versus on shelves. We've since moved and I've not seen this arrangement anywhere else. It's so nice. They have a vast array of materials and programs for kids and we immensely enjoyed spending time there.
What ever you need from any library, it can be yours with a few clicks on the website!! Awesome for school aged children.
To the traveler, if you need free wifi, a clean bathroom, a quiet spot to read, a comfortable chair to nap in, shelter from a storm in a controlled climate, a computer to borrow, or any other thing that modern libraries typically offer then you should stop in during your visit to Huntsville. If not, skip this attraction. I don't know of any historical significance to this place and it's not an architectural marvel. To the local, I recommend making this place part of your to-do list if you haven't been yet. They offer computer classes to adults on the second floor that I plan on taking advantage of next month. Our kids were happy to see they offer video game rentals as well as the usual audio/visual offerings. We signed up and will soon be downloading e-books through their web site. So, I totally endorse this attraction to locals but vacationers should find something else on the TripAdvisor list.
This library is one of the best mid-size city municiple libraries in the country. What truley makes it shine is the amazing geneological collection in Heritage Room. Out of print family history books, census and military records on microfilm make this an excellent resource of geneology reserch not only for Alabama, but the entire South Eastern US.
Great library, open with lots of space. Also a good selection on anything you are looking for. Books, CD's , DVD, s. Just a great place to be.
Downtown Huntsville location great. Nice place to sit down and read a book and go on to the computer. Lots of free parking and easy to get in to the parking area. Madison City location alos very nice.
