My wife and I like history. We visited this museum which is only open two days a week - Tuesday and Thursday. It covers the original inhabitants of the area - Indians. It then covers the fishing and shrimping industry before the tourist industry took over. Also what happened here during World War Two. Well worth stopping and enjoying these area of history and more.
This museum is in an old one room school house that has been moved to this location. It is a free attraction. There is a lot of information about hurricanes, boating, and there are items from the old schoolhouse. The person working is very knowledgeable and willing to answer questions.
Just happened up on this little museum and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is located in an old, one room school house that has been restored. It is jam packed with a large variety of local articles and artifacts. The curator was very informed and was able to answer all our questions. There was no admission fee required only a donation.
We recently enjoyed a visit to the Indian & Sea Museum in Orange Beach. The building and the displays are interesting for anyone with an interest in history. The lady who runs the museum is a wealth of information. The museum is currently open all year on Tuesday and Thursday; during part of the year, it is also open on Wednesday. The museum is free, but donations are accepted. Be sure to sign the guestbook.
This is a Super little museum. You can learn a lot about how Orange Beach, AL became to be. The hours are limited, so I would call ahead to make sure the are open. The staff are very friendly and have plenty of stories to share with you. It is free. But donations are welcome. Make sure you sign in to the guest book, because, that determines their days of operation. Enjoy!!!
Being a history buff, I always love to visit museums when on vacation. This is a great museum that tells local history in the area. I advise everyone to visit this great little museum! Admission is Free which is always a plus.
The museum is a fantastic place to spend an hour or two learning about the history of this little town now called Orange Beach. The museum is run by a lady who grew up here and whose family was one of the founding families in the area. The Walkers pretty much started the fishing business and the Calloways were the "shrimpers"..... But hey, go to the museum and learn it for yourself in much more interesting detail than I can describe. You will not be disappointed!
