My husband and I were in Montgomery for the day from Atlanta. We decided to visit the zoo to kill a few hours. The admission price was $15.00/per adult and we opted for the $4.00/pp add-on for the SkyLift (which was totally worth it). As luck would have it it was Animal Enrichment Day at the zoo which means toys/treats/games, etc were introduced into the animals' habitats throughout the day. It was very entertaining watching the chimps play and mock-fight over their treat jugs. The zoo is very well maintained. The enclosures are very nice and spacious. I would recommend this as a nice way to spend 2-3 hours with the family.
If your in montgomery this is a really great place to see. I have been to really large zoo's but for a small city this is one of my favorite things to do.
animals are well taken care of and their environments well keep.Zoo attractions are well planned out and easily accessible.
had agreat time a nice place to visit and enjoy lots to do and see many varieties of animals and birds!!
I enjoy going to montgomery zoo for the large animal exhibits. They have done a great job on the enclosures and habitats for the animals. There are a lot of small animals and birds as well.Dont forget to tour the mann museum as well because they have some of the best whole animal mounts that i have seen. The kids enjoyed it due to being able to touch so many different pelts and hides displayed for them. i was really impressed. Its a must see in montgomery.
Good family outing. Nice zoo for a city this size. Has a train and a zip line, also a nice playground. Seasonal lights at Halloween and Christmas
Easy to walk, not to big, and a good variety of animals, reptiles, etc. take a ride on the sky chairs for a good view from above.
Excellent place to take the kids or walk hand in hand and talk. Beautiful and educational. The food is a bit over priced but you can eat overlooking the park. We always get a combo so we can visit the zoo, museum, and ride the train. My kids always love the playground too.
My 5 year old and 3 year old loved this zoo. There was an educational piece at 1:30 about the lions that my 5 year old loved and my 3 year old loved the elephants and ant eater. This would be a great place to take a Girl Scout troop or something similar because of the educational aspect of it. There were several exhibits, a great playground on the grounds near the Tigers, and the train for smaller kids ( but didn't really go near anything), and the sky tram that allowed us to see pretty much the whole zoo. Great time. Tips: pack a lunch. Bring water in the winter months because the water fountains were off.
We are zoo members and have been for 3 years. We love having the zoo available for outings on days when the weather is nice and we just want to get out and about with our son. My son and I go regularly. During the week, it's not crowded and it's a lovely place to get outside and stroll. Be sure not to miss the elephant session at 2:30 where they feed the elephants and you get a closer up view. The kids love it. And lots of neat information learned. This zoo isn't too large, but they do have a lot of animals on exhibit including a Bengal tiger and a white Bengal tiger which are so much fun to watch, lions, two types of bears, elephants, giraffes (which you can feed for a small fee), lots of birds (walk-in exhibits), flamingos, cheetahs, leopards, spider monkeys, samiangs, chimps, rhinoceros, and more. One suggestion is to make sure to arrive by 12 or 1 if you want to see all of the animals. The whole zoo can be seen in about 2 hours, but often they start putting animals up early, especially the elephants. This can be frustrating when you have kids that are really wanting to see those animals, and paid admission to get in. The zoo is in need of some updating and the grounds could be kept up better. Avoid the cafe, food is mediocre and we have had experiences with rude staff in the seating area. The new additions of the sky lift and a few other exhibits have been great. They are doing the best with the funds they have. Overall, we enjoy the zoo and are glad to have it as a fun family option in our area. Worth a visit with little ones if you live in or near the area.
What a little gem! We live only about an hour and a half from this zoo and I can not believe we have not been before. It is a little pricey but once you're in you can see why. They have a GREAT playground and petting zoo area. The sky lift was worth the extra money! You can pack snacks, drinks or lunch (which I suggest) and that will save you money. We did not do the Mann Museum because it did not have live animals they were stuffed and I did not think it would be worth it. They do offer a military discount! The zoo has a free range concept so you can get really up close and personal. It's really close to downtown, so if you want to see the historic sites you can make a day of it! At night go play some slot machines at the local casino. All in all a great family weekend trip.
Been to this zoo several times in the past and found that it had not changed so much. Seems to be kept in good condition as far as the exhibits and grounds are concerned. Safe surroundings as well. Good outing for a family. I would return.
While you hate to criticize a zoo in these tough financial times, charging $15 per person for a train ride less than 15 minutes long and having no animals on display is just too much. Been to columbus and cincinnati zoos and they had marvelous lights and many animals. Save your $
Perfect family entertainment , well maintained great atmosphere , make this a yearly Christmas tradition
Montgomery Zoo is a relaxed and enjoyable, interactive park with educational exhibits, non-stressful interactions, a lake for paddle boating, sky-buckets for viewing the zoo from above, a train and a playground for relaxation an unwinding. This is a zoo where the kids can run and have fun. During the summer there are misting stations to keep cool and Christmas brings beautiful light and laser displays. This is a tucked away gem worth the effort!
