Jewell is a jewel! Don't miss their little shop in town as well. Bought a globe. They packed it well and it made it home in one piece.
We went to the garden for the 3rd annual rhubarb festival. A great time to go. The garden is in full bloom, rhubarb stalks as big as my wrist. After all Skagway is the garden capital of alaska. All the restaurant food is fresh from the garden. If your a train buff; the garden train is awesome, a mini white pass. The owners do a great job. I would go back again
We took an excursion to the Jewell Gardens. We had the opportunity to learn how to blow glass and then make an ornament. It was fun and we have a great keepsake. The trip provided lunch but everyone agreed that the food was terrible with few options. The gardens are beautiful and nice to walk through. We enjoyed the trip but if you are looking for exciting, this is not the trip for you. Note that there were around 20 people in our group and you will be waiting for everyone in the group to finish before eating and/or leaving. They mail your ornament to you, which we received about a week later in perfect shape.
We visited the Jewell gardens as part of a cruise excursion. It was well worth the trip. The range of plants and the beautiful garden designs were first rate. The whimsical glass objects scattered throughout the gardens were magical. Our guide was very personable and knowledgeable. We also had a delicious lunch in the restaurant. I fell in love with the rose tea. An extremely pleasant afternoon and a very worthwhile activity.
This was a neat glass-blowing exerience. A good thing to do if you have extra time in Skagway, which we had plenty of as our ship was there all day.
Recently took a cruise to Alaska and took a tour the Jewell Gardens. I have to say, this was the highlight of my trip. The gardens were beautiful and our tour guide Josh was amazing. You could clearly see he enjoyed what he was doing and was excited to be a part of it. We were fortunate enough to watch a glass blowing demonstration which was great. To watch a small amount of liquid glass turn into a beautiful bowl in front of my eyes was such a neat experience. We had a light meal in their restaurant and everything tasted fresh and was from the garden. I plan to cruise again to Alaska in 2016 and I will definitely include Jewell Gardens in my itinerary!
We had a 3 generation trip including my daughter, my recent college grad nephew and I. The glassblowing was so much fun. Travis was an excellent teacher and Mahuddy was very helpful with styles, colors etc. Both were interesting friendly young people Afterwards, we visited the garden and gift shop and enjoyed a lovely late afternoon tea with local Alaskan beers and choice of other cool and refreshing drinks. My Christmas ornament was waiting for me when I got home. It's a beautiful reminder of our Alaskan cruise and the most enjoyable excursion. This is a don't miss adventure.
My family and I had the chance to spend the late afternoon at Jewell Gardens, during an excursion while on our cruise. My father, my cousin, and I went, there was suppose to be a 4th person, but they never showed up. A pity to, they'd of had fun. The staff did a wonderful job of demonstrating the many techniques in glass blowing. My family and I had an absolute blast, because we were such a small group we were each able to make an ornament, and then we helped pick the colors out for a small bowl, which was then demonstrated for us, The staff has great talent in what they do with the glass blowing, the experience was amazing, and I do highly recommend it to everyone who comes in off a cruise to do this while in skagway, You will have a Blast. the mini-lunch was delicious, and a surprise. I look forward to getting to do this again some day.
We spent the afternoon at Jewell Gardens in Skagway Alaska while on a recent cruise and found the afternoon absolutely fabulous. After touring the gardens, we sat down for an outstanding glass blowing demonstration. I have been to Murano in Italy and this glass blowing demonstration blew them out of the water. They demonstrated how to make one of those gorgeous glass bowls that was about 20 - 24 inches in diameter with all these stunning colors. After the demonstation, we sat down for a high tea in their restraunt. Some of the best lemonade I had ever tasted in my life. This should definitely be on anyone's list of places to visit while in Skagway.
We had the opportunity to experience the glass blowing at Jewell Gardens. Both my husband and I had a great time. Travis was a great hands on guy, and very funny too. His 'assistant' and our guide was MaHaddy. She was very informative and very pleasant. Both made our experience a good time. The gift shop is fabulous and they have a website you can purchase from also. There was a light lunch and tea served. Food was very good (all from their own gardens)If you are looking to try something new, this excursion is it! After making our priceless treasures it was bitter sweet to get back from our cruise yesterday only to get very excited to receive our box in the mail today. The cost was well worth the experience!!
My husband I took the Smart bus out to the cometary and then discovered the gardens. The flowers are amazing, but $12.50 to walk in? The gift shop clerk only charged us one entry fee as we were going to eat lunch, so it wasn't so bad. The tea house is lovely and it was a nice break from the scruffy port "downtowns" filled with souvenir shops and jewelry stores.
This is not your run of the mill excursion. If you like learning something new everyday then this is for you. The employees made the experience very interesting and foolproof. Travis and Haddie, both made us feel at ease and helped us experience a technique that obviously takes years to master. The gardens were beautiful, the tea room was a very nice treat after making our ornament. The mint lemonade was so refreshing and tasted amazing. There were both men and women there and most would think this more a female excursion but the men who participated appeared to enjoy the experience as much as the women. I just want to thank Travis and Haddie for a very fulfilled afternoon, definitely was well worth my time.
This was a wonderful experience. Josh and Travis made this experience a lot of fun. And to see the final product that you make is awesome. Worth the Money!!!
This is a beautiful garden with many flowers and vegetables. There is a lovely tea house for lunch and all the vegetables come from their own garden. There is a moderate fee per person to visit the garden but one could easily spend two or three hours there. The gift shop (no fee) has many art pieces of blown glass made on site.
We arranged for the glass blowing experience after reading reviews on Trip Advisor and booked directly with the vendor. Our cruise ship offered different excursions, but nothing like this one. The glass blowing experience only accepts six people and you truly get to learn about and participate in the glass blowing of your own ornament. We had a very personable young man guide us and just had a great time. Then we toured the gardens which are truly stunning. Best way to get here is by the Skagway bus service which makes a special stop here. It is only $2 each way or $5 round trip you just pay the bus driver. Too far to walk from the dock.
