I always get moved by veterans memorials. My husband and I both serve and it's nice to just sit here silently and reflect on memories.
Honoring all the wars in which Veterans fought. Visited on way back from Denali and ended up with absolutely magnificent view of Mt McKinley from the Monument. Might be one of the best unmentioned viewing sites for the Mountain.
The memorial is well worth stopping at for a walk around the monument while you reflect and how brave others have been so we have are freedom.
If you're interested in learning some more about the WWII history of Alaska (who would imagine it had one?) stop there and walk around. The story is quite surprising (or not). This is also another nice place to gather a few more tips for Alaska experiences, on your way to Denali or the Denali Highway. The volunteering couple from Florida who staffed the place in our visit was very friendly and hospitable, and gave us some important tips. The rest rooms were quite terrible, but this could simply be a bad day.
Enjoyed this experience. The memorial is very nice. Lots of opportunities for photos. Restrooms and coffee.
Can see Mt McKinley on a clear day - the memorials for outstanding - got some great pictures of the sun shining thru the Star.
This is a good stop on your trip to Denali Park or Fairbanks from Anchorage. It is a simple memorial. Informational signs at memorial. View of Denali. It you are a geocache type person there is a cache here. Restrooms (outhouses) and a store in the summer. Good place to strech your legs and walk your dog. Please pick up after your dog.
Spend a few minutes or a few hours. Great stop near byers lake easy trail through woods at beginning of parking lot was fun to take kids on. A few plants were marked namely devils club (three times) haha but still a gorgeous park with an amazing view.
Placing a Veterans Memorial in a place with amazing views of Denali was genius. The Memorial itself is quite somber and reflective, as well as educational. An excellent place to pay your respects to those who have served our country. This is also an excellent picnic spot or a place to nap if you are driving long distances. The visitor center/book shop is open in summer and provides snacks and cold drinks and a nice selection of books and gifts. The outhouses on the grounds are very clean as well. If you drive between Anchorage and Fairbanks, you really should stop in.
A very nice memorial to Alaskan war veterans. The location is very isolated for such an important memorial, which I thought was a little strange. Overall, very nice, but not very moving. I
One of the better views from the road of Mt. McKinley (Denali). Nice roadside memorial with areas to sit and wander. I am a sucker for Veterans sites so I enjoyed this stop.
Everything about this Memorial is beautiful. It's a great rest stop (one of the best/only after Trapper's Creek heading north) with plenty of parking, bathrooms and room to run around. The location says Trapper Creek, but it's about a half hour past that. :)
Rode in the motorcycle procession from Mary's Lodge to the Veteran's Memorial...weather was great and around 200 bikes were there for the ceremony...
