Sound Paddler was excellent for me and my girlfriend planning our kayaking trip. They were a one-stop-shop for all of our kayaking needs and made us feel very comfortable and ready for our kayaking trip. Working with Lois was a great experience and she was responsive and very knowledgeable. Unfortunately terrible weather made us cancel our trip and Sound Paddler was professional and understanding. Thank you!
I love paddling with Sound Paddler and the Kayak Center. Perry and Lois always make every trip the best and focus on every detail. I cannot wait till I am back in Whittler for another paddle!
I called a three places on the PW Sound to reserve kayaks before our trip. Roger was so helpful, and Sound Paddler seemed to be the easiest to deal with (no "test " for novices, and flexible times). We knew about when we'd get there, but just a time frame. Roger was open to our loose time frame. When we got there, he and Alexis were helpful and friendly. They gave us a quick safety lesson, a map, a recommended route, and sent us on our way. We saw a rookery of birds, a sea otter up close, (maybe I saw a seal too), and awesome views. It was pouring, but I didn't care. As Roger said, "There's no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear." We came back, and Roger picked us up right at closing time. I appreciate that. I definitely recommend going kayaking on the PW sound as it's calm for novices and you see some great nature. If you do, I definitely recommend Sound Paddler. They have a ton of equipment, and I believe they even outfit other paddling companies in the area.
Just came back from a 7 hour paddle to Blackstone glacier (and others). Had a fabulous time. Comfortable fiberglass (read: higher quality) kayaks, friendly, competent and informative guides and a delicious lunch. For the four of us this was an expensive endeavor but well worth every penny. They're hard to find in Whittier so make sure you have your direction sheet.
I lead a sea-kayak trip with three friends to Blackstone and Cochran Bay last August, 2012. The trip went very well thanks to advise from Lois and Perry Sullivan owners of Sound Paddler. The crew was also very knowledgable and informative. I choose Sound Paddler over others to outfit my group because of their 30 plus years of experience, excellent equipment (fiberglass boasts) and their expert advise. In planning the trip I was able to get much needed information off thier web site to plan the route, equipment rental and logistics. I also spoke to Lois and Perry (owners) over the phone. They also provided information on camping, weather, safety, cold water rescue, location of salmon spawning streams and routes. They go out of their way to make sure you have safety equipment available like VHF radio, flares, rain flies, water proof bags and bomb proof rain gear, a necessity. The staff will fit the person to the right kayak for comfort and space. I felt planning for an extended tirp in Prince William Sound was a serious undertaking and selection of an outfitter is important. Sound Paddler fulfilled my expectations. I am planning another trip this year 2013 and will use them again. I highly recommend talking to Sound Paddler if you thinking about seakayaking in Alaska. Roy Catalano, Colorado Springs, Colorado
