The small cafe restaurant upstairs may look simple, but honey, they can cook; Previously we had gone for sandwiches at lunch, but were seduced by the carnitas; very good; and the bunch items were as well, very good; much better than most anchorage brew pubs... yes, pay attention, bears tooth; But yesterday, after a cold morning, we went in; and it was posole thursday; and that was what everyone was having. Without question, the very best red posole ever!! fragrant, nicely hot, generous, great toppings; wow! They alternate green with red; that will be where we are next thursday. Great job!
It's our Saturday go to place....great beer, food but most important staff. Will and mike are the best!!!
MSB was recommended to us by a captain on a boat in Whittier. Great food. Great Beer. Great service. Our family ate dinner here, tried a flight of beer, and ordered Fallen Angel. If I lied in Anchorage, I would be a regular. The restaurant is in an industrial district and it's up on the second floor.
We stopped here on our way out of town for lunch and ended up staying several hours for lunch and to sample the brews. We enjoyed all the beers and the food was excellent for a microbrewery.
First, the location of this brewery is very easy to drive by, I knew I was there when I saw the kegs outside. Located on the second floor, I walked around the building until I saw stairs heading up (the first floor looks to be dedicated to brewing). This was the last day of a 16 day trek in AK and maybe the sixth or more brewery we had tried. Of those, only two were revisits from a trip two years prior. Craft beers/brewing has exploded and there is some excellent competition...however in my opinion, this brew pub had it the most together: producing excellent beers, providing good food, friendly staff and awesome graphics (more on this). We were a large group, spanning from teenagers to near-retire age and almost agreed that their food and beverages were good. I had the soup/sandwich combo and really enjoyed the soup, a beer cheddar concoction. One of the kids ordered the Mac & Cheese and reported it was so-so....but that could be because we had just made some scratch King Crab M&C in the RV. The food theme in most of the AK brew pubs is pizza...so I was happy to see more classic pub choices and some great hot meals (daily specials). The beer, while there was a flight (light beers), I opted to order a pint of Sockeye IPA (reasonably priced at $4 glass, and two half pints ($2/glass) of Son of Berserker and Monks Mistress (I think). All were great, two being exceptional. This brewery also made the largest selection of Belgian style beers of any that we had stopped at.The mention earlier of the graphic designs was due to the super selection of tee shirts/clothes. In commenting to one of the staff, he pointed out the owner and who he thought was the graphic artist. Well, I stopped by and introduced myself to both and mentioned how enjoyable this was and the owner introduced the artist (Breweries pay attention, these shirts were on a different level than most and they were flying out the door!). Smart lady (one of the owners) running this place, and I can't wait to go back.
I actually found them online, we were staying at a bed and breakfast nearby. The waitress was very friendly. Let me try several beers. The food specials were very good. A great find on the outskirts of Anchorage.
Our group hit this hideaway on advice of a local we spoke with while viewing a building with history of Anchorage painted on it's outside wall adjacent to our parking lot behind Humpy's downtown. Nicely done only wish it would have been a Thursday so we could have taken the tour as we flew out that evening. Another pint glass for the collection means the beer is great!
Great little brewery! It's a nice place to sit and relax. The beer selection is small, but of good quality. The food prepared by the Loft, changes daily. The menu offers a nice selection and the food is of good quality and creativity. The facility is simple but clean and interesting. The service was very friendly and knowledgeable. It is an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon! Check their hours before you go, because their hours aren't always typical.
Midnight Sun Brewery was a nice place, good atmosphere. They had great brews and good selection. They also serve food but we had already eaten, looked good though. The brewery also gives tours in the summer and they include samples during the tour. It was a fun time.
My wife and I stopped here to sample their beer. It's a little out-of-the-way from downtown but it's worth the effort. When we first arrived we thought that it was closed as the front of the building was dark. It turned out that the entrance to the restaurant/bar is in the back of the building. They had a large number of their beers on tap. You'll find their beer in some Anchorage bars but you'll get a much better selection here. The ones we had were consistently very good. I was especially impressed with their dark beers. We snacked on their cheese and meat plates. They were very high quality. Note that they're licensed as a brewery so they're required to close at 8:00 pm and have a 36 ounce limit on beer purchases (excluding growlers for take-out).
Good assortment of beer, friendly and knowledgable server, tasty appetizers. It is a little difficult to find. We liked the wheat beers and the double hopped iPa.
This was a cool little brewery. They had some tasty choices for sandwiches, too. You can only get 36 ounces of brew while your there, so choose wisely. Make sure you have your ID as well or you won't get served, no matter what your age. They also close at 8:00, so make sure you get there early if you want to buy souvenirs or growlers to go. I'm thinking I may get there logo as my next tattoo!
Midnight Sun is my favorite brewery in Anchorage and there food does not disappoint either. While there menu is small everything they do, they do very well.
Definitely one of my favorite brewery tours. Went on a very snowy night in January and our cab driver could hardly find the place. It is kind a bit off beaten path. Tour was given by one of the owners. Loved the sockeye salmon tap and the story behind it. This place has great beer with intriguing names, and some great artwork.
It was raining like crazy and we went there for the evening tour that this place offers. Very interesting and entertaining. Then we had dinner and beers. The soups are out of this world and the sandwiches huge and yummy!. The grey day was brightened by this placeCan't wait to go there again!!!
