It's not a bed museum, but nothing impressive. Good for children of 16 or younger, but for adults you shouldn't expect to learn something new.If you have visited more impressive museums in New York or Philly, you will definitely feel disappointed at this one.
Museum of the North is a nice local museum to visit. It contains a small but rich collection of local artists and provides some insides of the Alaskan heritage.
The building is a dramatic statement which somehow reflects the landscape of Alaska - it is beautiful from all angles. This museum is intimate, and has very interesting exhibits, with a very tempting retail outlet which I find unusual. The artifacts were just too tempting for words, I couldn't resist. Well done Alaska!
This museum offered a great learning experience for our grandchildren. We were visiting Fairbanks and spend several hours here. They are still talking about the things they saw and learned. A great value for state resident also.
Very interesting! Encouraged curiosity about interior Alaska. Easily visited on University campus. This should be your first stop on a trip to this part of Alaska.
This is quite a good museum, don't get me wrong, there's just still lots of room for improvement. I think my biggest negative is that it is very overpriced. For it's size it should be less expensive. Also, the displays feel quite random. I'm used to a nice chronological tour and it did that, but..... it could maybe be improved. There was a visiting display on one of the ice research boats. That was nice.
Great afternoon spent here, very informative with lots of great displays & kids loved the interactive area.Definitely worth a visit and if you head down to the university food court you can grab a bite to eat.
We visited here on our 1st day in town. So, our first impression of Alaska, sort of. Nice musuem. Al little small for the fee, but it was well done. You really only need 1/2 day to see it. A small cafe for coffee but not much else. Art gallery upstairs is nice and some really nice views from the mountaintop facing South across Fairbanks. Really one main gallery of exhibits. With kids we didn't have time to read every plaque, but they seemed to cover most Alaskan heritage. Some good bits I was not aware of. Great stuffed wild animals to see seals, bears, etc. Parking is not free. About $5 for 3 hours. Can't exactly recall.
Costs a bit, but the displays are detailed and show a detailed history of Fairbanks. Food is available. We have taken grand kids several times and they always enjoy it. Also has good wildlife displays.
Exhibits include a 2,000-year spectrum of Alaska art, from ancient ivory carvings to contemporary paintings and sculpture, in the Rose Berry Alaska Art Gallery; the state's largest public display of gold and Blue Babe, a 36,000-year-old mummified steppe bison. There are changing sound and light installations about seismic activity and the aurora borealis. The museum also hosts over 1.4 million artifacts and specimens – representing millions of years of biological diversity and thousands of years of cultural traditions in Alaska and the circumpolar North. A must-see during your visit to Fairbanks!
This museum has the best display of arctic artifacts and the history and culture of interior Alaska. As an extra benefit, it has a listening room in which tones generated by natural processes (such as winds, earth movements, weather changes etc.) can be heard.
Well laid out displays. Helpful informative doscents. Great gift shop. Consistently a guest favorite.
Didn't realize all that was available here. From the building itself (architecture), and the outside grounds, to the very interesting exhibits! The "gallery of Alaska" was great. The "place where you go to listen" was something new, maybe a little weird, but glad we went into that room even if for just a few minutes. We would highly recommend a visit if you have free time, would need a half a day to get a good visit in.
You can watch; you can touch,; you can learn...It's worth your while to visit.
Take a few hrs of your trip to visit this museum. In addition to a great lesson in Alaskan nature and history, stay a bit longer to watch a few movies museum has to offer: you will get a chance to dive into the lifestyle of locals and grasp an understanding of the unique nature and landscape of this great state!
